The character I cosplayed this time is Evernight from Honkai: Star Rail. From hair and makeup to costume, the entire look has strong visual recognition. The short pink wig paired with highly saturated red contact lenses creates a mysterious and cool vibe under strong light.
The costume design is a classic representation of the black, white, and red color scheme. The high white mandarin collar elongates the neckline, featuring unique dark decorative buttons at the collar. The large red flower embellishment on the chest serves as the visual focus of the entire outfit, with detailed layering of the petals and fine gray-and-black textures. The sleeves feature an extremely asymmetrical design: one side is an off-shoulder white sleeve covered with black fluid-like decorative patterns, extending downward into transparent plastic-textured ribbons; the other side is a dark sleeve with multiple metal ring straps. The top cinches at the waist with metal buckle accents, while the hem features intricate silver-stitched hollow patterns, adding to the richness of details.
The focus of the makeup this time was on the expression around the eyes and facial mood. To match the character's aura, the eyeliner was elongated and slightly winged up, emphasizing the piercing intensity of the gaze. The shade of the pink wig is full of youthful charm, cut in layers to create a fluffy and airy texture with a touch of playful messiness. This required repeated styling before the shoot to prevent it from looking like a heavy headpiece. Although the black flower ornament on the side of the wig is subtle, it serves to balance the colors and echo the black-and-white tones of the costume.
The convention photography shoot utilized direct, strong flash lighting. While this lighting setup demands flawless makeup, it effectively eliminates ambient stray light, creating a stark contrast between the black background and the subject, dramatically highlighting the fabric textures and edge details of the costume. For props, I chose a black long-handled umbrella. The alternating black and white lines of the umbrella handle echoed the lines of the outfit. Even without complex scenery, relying solely on the prop in hand and piercing eyes was enough to carry the overall atmosphere of the shot.
The preparation for this Evernight cosplay was quite tedious. The red contacts required high transparency, needing a shade with good texture that didn't look overly jarring. The tailoring accuracy of the costume was extremely high, especially the 3D flower on the chest and the reflective tulle fabric of the sleeves. The black fluid marks might have used a special heat-transfer printing technique, and together with the asymmetrical weight distribution, I had to adjust my posture when wearing it to ensure balanced composition. The belt area coordinated well with the metal buckles, allowing the entire costume to fit smoothly against the body without looking bulky.
During the shoot, I tried to simplify body movements as much as possible, focusing instead on eyes and subtle facial expressions. Evernight gives off a powerful aura with a touch of cold detachment. Although I couldn't recreate every aspect of the character's core, at the moment the shutter clicked, I tried my best to understand and align with this intrinsic quality. The color clash of black, white, pink, and red offers a mature and sharp aesthetic while retaining a sense of youthful girliness—that was the core of the cosplay I originally wanted to capture. Although shooting under the intense flash lights was exhausting, seeing the costume texture and light-and-shadow contrast in the final photos made all the preparation and shooting time completely worth it.
