This time, the commissioned photo shoot for Genshin Impact's Neuvillette was set in a wine cellar space with a retro luxury feel. To restore the Chief Justice's demeanor—which is both dignified yet elegant—we put a lot of thought into the costume and makeup. The wig used silvery-white as the main tone, with deep blue gradient treatments at the hair ends and sideburns. The hair accessory on the left side chose a blue-and-gold color scheme, which presents a metallic luster under the lighting. In terms of makeup, white eyebrows matched with upturned blue eyeliner and light grayish-blue contact lenses highlighted the cold and aloof feeling in the gaze. Figure 3 specifically showcased the elf ear props, adding a non-human fantasy feel.
The texture of the costume was something we valued greatly in this shoot. The royal blue coat material comes with its own gloss, featuring complex dark patterns and gradient reflections, complemented by golden piping and purple-blue scale-like decorations, creating a very rich sense of layering when walking. The inner white shirt features a ruff collar ruffle design, and the sapphire brooch on the chest is the finishing touch. The lower body is paired with black glossy leather pants. Many people think leather pants can easily swallow body movements, but in this scene, leather pants instead outline the leg lines exceptionally well, and paired with black gloves and leather boots, the overall aura is fully established.
In terms of pose design, we tried different atmospheric feels. The first photo utilizes foreground-blurred flying banknotes, combined with my outstretched hand, creating a visual impact that breaks conventions with a bit of a cynical touch. For the second photo, I chose to sit on a black box, with legs crossed, holding a long pole prop with purplish-red lighting. The action of fingers lightly touching the lips brings both a sense of mystery and a bit of confidence in controlling the whole situation. The third photo utilizes a mirror, standing against the wall with both hands raised to adjust the gloves, with the side of the face catching the light, showcasing an introverted elegance.
During the shooting process, the cooperation of light and shadow was crucial. We heavily used a cold-and-warm contrast lighting method, with the main light source leaning towards a cold tone, hitting the character's face and costume to highlight texture and three-dimensionality, while the background wine cabinet adopted warm yellow ambient light. This not only made the character pop out from the background but also greatly enhanced the storytelling feel of the image. In mastering the expression, to reflect the Chief Justice's calm demeanor of quiet dignity, I tried to avoid exaggerated expressions, relying more on the focus of the gaze and the slightly raised angle of the chin to convey emotion. The catchlights and jawline of every photo underwent several adjustments, striving to leave a deep impression at first glance. The grip strength on handheld props and the falling angle of the banknotes were also communicated repeatedly with the photographer to capture the satisfying moment. The final photo results indeed achieved the richness and three-dimensionality we expected, and whether it's the presentation of costume details or the creation of the overall atmosphere, it highly aligns with my understanding of this character in my heart.
