Completing this Fate/Grand Order duo photoshoot of Ishtar and Ereshkigal with my partner was truly an exhilarating experience. As the Goddess of Venus and the Goddess of the Underworld, these two characters are inherently brimming with tension and dramatic contrast; to bring their nuances to life flawlessly, we dedicated extensive care to our preparations. Ishtar's wardrobe is dominated by black and red paired with golden embellishments, embodying both divine majesty and her signature tsundere flair. To recreate that opulent grandeur, we compared numerous materials for the accessories, striving to capture the finest metallic luster on camera. Ereshkigal's battle attire embraced a white, gold, and blue palette, where the bare-midriff design elevated her sensuality while lending airy lightness to the silhouette. Hair and makeup were equally rigorous—both hairstyles are distinct and required generous amounts of styling products to hold their structural shape. The crimson contact lenses especially tended to dry out the eyes over long stretches, making eye drops an absolute staple between takes. The most captivating facet of this shoot was undoubtedly the chemistry and interaction between the two of us. Ishtar's greatsword carried immense weight—not only was it massive in volume, but brandishing it demanded substantial wrist strength, presenting a serious test of endurance and positional precision. When shooting paired frames, we constantly fine-tuned our stances and expressions; compositions like one standing ahead while the other knelt behind were designed to highlight the complex dynamic of rivalry and unbreakable bond between them. As for cinematography and post-production, the final outcome was breathtaking. To conjure an epic fantasy ambiance, we used hard directional key lights to chisel crisp silhouettes, subsequently incorporating rich magical visual effects in post. The magenta-violet flames licking along Ishtar's blade and the golden shimmering particles orbiting Ereshkigal magnified the visual impact immensely. The composited fog and lighting layers particularly demanded meticulous tracking along the trajectory of our movements so the particle flow looked seamless and organic. The most physically exhausting aspect was undoubtedly balancing on high heels—especially those golden strappy stiletto sandals: stunning and faithful as they were, I had to collapse into a seat at every brief intermission while constantly mindful of flexing clean calf lines. Overall, every step from wardrobe and props to lighting and VFX was executed with wholehearted passion, and we hope these final frames capture the divine splendor of the goddesses as we envisioned them.
