Panty's outfit is truly perfect for playing around with some unique compositions in the studio. For this teaser photo, I chose an inverted lying-down angle, resting my legs on a wooden high stool. Actually, shooting from this supine angle is a real test of physical endurance, because I have to maintain that posture constantly to ensure the dress folds spread out naturally and don't get squished too flat, otherwise it would look very heavy.
There are actually so many details in this white gear. The pink spherical decoration on the chest is the visual highlight. Paired with a large area of the white ruffled miniskirt, these are actually very feminine elements. However, with the addition of the wide golden choker around the neck, the armlets on both wrists, and those straps wrapped around the calves, the overall look gains a sharp edge. This feeling perfectly fits Panty's setup as a thorny roseāincredibly sweet on the surface, but full of aggressiveness to the bone, matching the vibe of this iconic sexy anime.
The blonde hair styling also required a lot of effort. Since it's a wig, besides trimming it into natural layers, I also had to fluff up the volume at the hair ends. This head-tilted angle exposes my face completely under the main light, so the layering of the eye makeup and the light blue contact lenses can be seen exceptionally clearly. I wanted to restore that expression that is both confident and a bit nonchalant.
In terms of clothing fabric selection, the white top uses a slightly semi-transparent material instead of rigid cotton, which creates a hazy texture when hit with soft light. The details of the ruffled collar and cuffs, as well as the straps on the hands, were all manually adjusted bit by bit to achieve the most form-fitting state. The white high heels on my feet, combined with the straps, also beautifully elongate the visual proportions.
This particular image is the teaser I picked out myself; the light and shadow are processed quite cleanly without too many complex environmental elements, allowing the focus to entirely center on me. Although the full cosplay photoshoot isn't fully edited yet, I couldn't help but select one photo to post first for everyone to see.
The biggest challenge during the shooting process was actually maintaining the breathing rhythm in this supine position. Because I had to fix the position of my legs and keep my shoulders dropped to touch the ground, my abs were actually constantly exerting force to stabilize the core. This state also demands high expression control; if I exert too much force, my expression becomes distorted, so I had to find a balance point between relaxation and exertion.
Once the head is completely flat on the ground, if the neck relaxes, a double chin or awkward neck lines easily appear. So I had to slightly raise my chin to keep the jawline taut, while my eyes looked up at the camera, expressing Panty's signature tsundere vibe of "Are you going to fall for me too?".
This outfit yields two completely different vibes in dynamic versus static states. When static, it looks a bit like an exquisite doll, but once you strike this slightly aggressive pose, that innate confidence unique to Panty comes right out. This is also why I love this cosplayāit can handle both sweet and sharp styles simultaneously.
As for the jewelry, not only the golden choker but also those glittering metallic decorations on the wrists look very luxurious. Under the cool white tones of the studio lights, this combination of metal and white is highly eye-catching, beautifully enhancing the frame's texture. I feel that when shooting such high-brightness characters, clean and crisp ambient light is actually the best choice, allowing the costume's fabric and color contrast to shine through.
During post-processing, I intentionally preserved some skin texture instead of doing that completely unrealistic skin smoothing, which makes it look much more vivid. The full cosplay photoshoot actually features several other scenes and different expressions, but since this is just a teaser, I threw out this most striking one.
In this teaser image, the lines of the high stool and my limbs form a diagonal sense of extension. Combined with the solid-colored background, it gives the overall frame a very modern feel, matching the character's unconventional personality perfectly. Because I'm lying on the floor, the reflection from the ground fills soft light onto my cheeks and neck, giving the whole person a translucent sense of brightness.
Actually, during the process of preparing the costume, I repeatedly adjusted the tightness of the arm rings; being too loose made them slip off easily, while being too tight would leave red marks on my arms, so I tried them on several times to find the most suitable placement. This includes the golden choker on my neck, which had to avoid choking me while steadily supporting my jawline when my head was tilted back. Also, for the lace-up shoes on my feet, since I needed to maintain the position of keeping my legs elevated for a long time, the anti-slip soles and ankle support were highly important, otherwise sliding off the stool or twisting an ankle would interrupt the shoot. These seemingly inconspicuous details actually all affect the final photos' texture. I hope this teaser can convey my understanding of the Panty character to everyone, reflecting the many careful thoughts behind the entire preparation work to fulfill this gorgeous angel styling.
