Shooting a location set for Sankarea: Undying Love has always been on my bucket list. Encountering this patch of beautifully growing Endless Summer in Meizhou this time, I decisively seized the opportunity. Although it is already 2026 when I finally shot a character from this old anime, that feeling of love has never changed.
To recreate Rea's unique temperament of drifting on the edge of life and death, I specially paired this look with red colored contacts. Along with the purple-and-white sailor uniform and the blue bow tie, it forms a slightly cool visual contrast in terms of color. The hydrangeas here in Meizhou are blooming very luxuriantly; the blue-violet flowers layer upon layer, perfectly balancing out the large areas of green background. The weather on the day of the shoot was changeable, with a drizzle falling from time to time, which unexpectedly fit the gloomy atmosphere of Sankarea as a "zombie girl."
For the set where I sat on a bench holding a transparent umbrella, the water droplets on the umbrella surface froze into a natural reflector the moment the shutter was pressed, adding a touch of moist breathability to the frame. Shooting a low-angle shot while lying in the flowers actually requires some skill—both managing the hair so it doesn't get tangled in the leaves and finding an evenly lit angle in the gaps. The photographer also worked hard, crawling on the ground to find the perfect camera position.
Every time I do this Anime cosplay, I rethink the character's expression. Rea's emotions are restrained yet high-impact, so I tried my best to avoid exaggerated movements in front of the lens, relying more on my gaze and body language to convey a sense of determination and obsession beneath the calmness. Sankarea in the flower bushes actually feels separated from the noisy world outside by a transparent boundary. The light and environment of a location shoot are uncontrollable, but precisely because of this unpredictability, the stiff feeling of a staged set is softened. I hope this photo set delivers that cool and serene feeling unique to the bond between Endless Summer and Rea, wrapping up a memorable journey of Photography in Meizhou.
