This convention photo was taken at the exhibition venue over the weekend, right when I had just changed into this white Atago uniform. The samurai sword in hand paired with the black cat ears gave a strong feeling of preparing to sortie from the port.
The white uniform design showcases great texture under the convention lighting; the golden badge on the chest, the golden stripes and piping accents on the cuffs, and that golden ring around the collar—these details add a touch of military uniform neatness to the entire look. Although this outfit is a uniform style, the tailoring excellently highlights the waistline. Paired with the black lace-trimmed over-the-knee socks on my legs and those white high heels, it visually elongates the body shape, looking clean and crisp.
To match the character's demeanor, I slightly enhanced the upturned eyeliner this time. Combined with the straight bangs and black long hair, I hoped to present a sense of calmness containing a trace of laziness. This half-kneeling pose in the photo actually tests core strength quite a bit; the center of gravity must be steadily placed on the heels, the right hand needs to steadily grip the hilt, and the left hand also has to hold the long black scabbard to maintain the body's sense of balance. We tried several angles on set before finding this posture where force is applied most naturally.
When taking the photo, although the lighting in the venue leaned cool, the spotlights from the overhead grid structure happened to strike down diagonally, giving the face an excellent light-dark contour. The exhibition floor was that smooth light grey color; when I knelt half-down, the white patent leather high heels on my feet formed a distinct reflective surface on the grey ground, making the lower half of the overall frame look richer in detail and carry more texture. I am highly satisfied with this low perspective found by the photographer; he utilized a low camera position to perfectly capture the leg lines and the extended feel of the feet.
Every time I do a uniform character carrying military uniform elements, I remind myself during dressing to maintain an upright posture. Even though people were coming and going in the venue and the background contained various cluttered exhibition elements, once I entered the state, I would completely submerge into the aura of this character setting. This prop sword has a very moderate weight; when holding it up, there's no need to worry about arms turning sore or shaking, which also lets my movements look more natural.
Actually, this costume set is highly eye-catching at the convention; the pure white base color paired with golden buttons and badges brings high recognizability when walking around the venue. Especially the lace-trimmed black stockings—they not only elongate the leg visuals but also form a highly delicate color transition between the white skirt hem and the high heels. To keep the clothes smooth, I even specially checked the skirt hem creases and the cuff lacing before shooting.
This convention photo didn't use any extra flash, relying completely on the venue's own top lights and natural light. I am highly satisfied with the photographer's ability to capture light; he retained genuine skin texture without excessive airbrushing, which makes the final result look more real and carry more breathability. The character's temperament usually carries that big-sister-like composure and calmness, so when doing this action, I deliberately didn't make the expression too serious, instead maintaining a natural smile and leisurely gaze, wanting to combine it with this sharp prop to form a contrast of a dashing exterior but a serene interior.
The cuff portion of this white uniform is made into a slight flare shape, matching the white lacing on the wrist to make the forearms look more slender. When I knelt half-down, the lines of the skirt hem also held up exceptionally well without causing messy folds, maintaining the uniform's upright feel beautifully. Every single time doing a cosplay is a process of immersively experiencing a different character's personality; when you put on that specific outfit and pick up that weapon, you unconsciously blend into that world. This convention photo froze that moment, and the overall completion and exhibited texture both reached my expected effects, making it a highly comfortable convention shooting experience.
