As Baby mandarin, for the third day of this Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo, I cosplayed the Spark of Wisdom outfit from Honkai Star. Preparing the entire costume took a lot of thought, but the props at the convention and the final photos made me feel that all the preparation was entirely worth it. First is this visually striking modified Japanese-style top; the wide sleeves are printed with a unique black, white, and blue pattern, and the edges are sealed with a black wavy trim. The red and white collar design is very layered, and paired with the black corset belt, it looks unexpectedly slimming.
As for the wig, the silver-pink-toned long hair is braided into two strands draping over the chest, intertwined with red hair ribbons, and topped with a large white rabbit ear decoration, perfectly fitting the character's playful and lively vibe. To match the overall color scheme, I chose a rather reddish-brown eyeshadow for the eye makeup and wore red colored contacts, hoping to recreate the character's expression. A choker with a metal pendant is tied around the neck, black gloves are worn on the arms, and paired with the white rabbit plushie and red tassel bell gripped in my hands, these intricate items make the outfit look highly detailed and rich.
For the lower body, I paired a layered white ruffled short skirt with black platform boots, and added black strappy rings around the calves, which balances the coordination of the overall look while maintaining a sharp appearance. Since the floor scene this time was specially arranged with a black-and-red interlocking checkered mat scattered with card-like props, during the shoot, the photographer NightDiva intentionally chose a backlit environment, using the afternoon sunlight to contrast with the green trees and residential buildings in the background, beautifully highlighting the character's bright silhouette and the details on the clothing.
Through the photographer's clever composition, the rim light brought by the backlighting made the silver-white hair stand out even more, giving the entire photo a bright and fresh feel. As a cosplayer, I believe the meaning of a convention isn't just about putting on a character's clothes, but more importantly, expressing the character's unique cuteness and confidence through the lens within a specific space. Although weaving through the crowd and posing on-site really tested my physical stamina, seeing this set of photos at the end made me feel that the character's state, costume details, and background atmosphere combined just right. During the shooting process, NightDiva patiently adjusted angles to capture very vivid expressions—no rigid staged posing, but more natural shutter clicks during interactions.
Guangzhou's weather in May is already very hot, but I still insisted on fully displaying this heavy costume. Many passing players recognized the character when they saw it and greeted me warmly; that kind of unspoken mutual understanding among fellow fans is the most fascinating part of a convention. Because the sleeves of this gear are too wide, they often brushed against my face when I raised my hands, but this conversely became a very interesting little interlude during this shoot. Overall, whether it's the color scheme or the overall visual effect, it met my expectations. The photo process of this day went smoother than anticipated, and with the help of the timely sunlight, this look with special totems and plush decorations turned quite a few heads at the venue.
Although this event on Day 3 of the convention has ended, every moment standing in front of the camera wearing these carefully prepared clothes remains deeply memorable to me. In the photo set shared this time, I tried my best to choose angles where the expressions and movements are relatively natural, hoping you can see my earnest attitude toward this cosplay. For me, behind every high-quality photo shoot is the help of the photographer and helper friends; this sense of satisfaction from completing a piece of work together is exactly why I've always kept playing cosplay.
