Setting the theme of this aquarium photoshoot around "Hoshino" was intended to harness the venue's interplay of flowing water and light to resonate with her signature languid yet protective aura. We selected a corner of an underwater cavern as the overall setting; the deep blue background and swimming translucent schools of fish provided an exquisite environmental base, where natural dappled light delivered ample visual tension without needing complex artificial staging.
In practice, managing the lighting atmosphere was quite challenging because reflections off the water surface were very intense; poor control could easily flatten facial contours or wash them out with harsh white specular light. Fortunately, photographer @YikuaiPisa handled the environment masterfully, utilizing shimmering surface ripples as a natural foreground reflector. This preserved the deep cool blue underwater tones while establishing a striking warm-cool visual contrast against the star lantern in my hand and surrounding luminous props. The color clash between warm amber lights and teal water perfectly brought out Hoshino's understated yet undeniable character presence.
Regarding styling, this long straight pink wig was quite heavy in texture and volume. To ensure it naturally contoured to my head while preserving the airy drape of the side locks, we spent substantial time securing the hair accessories. The pink semi-curved headpiece overhead had to be balanced so as not to flatten the hair roots while maintaining an elegant curve from both front and profile angles, ultimately achieving an effortless yet meticulously crafted look. For eye makeup, to match her signature blue eyes, I opted for blue-gray contact lenses, keeping the eyeshadow blending crisp and clean without piling on heavy glitter, focusing on the lower lash line so the gaze appeared bright yet gently detached.
For attire, I chose this white off-the-shoulder ruffled dress with delicate blue piping, looking crisp and brimming with summer vibes. However, sitting on stones by the water required constant vigilance over water levels; although the hem avoided the surface as much as possible, sudden splashes required quick dodges. The silhouette of the dress is relatively lightweight without fussy lace or voluminous skirts—a minimalist style that matches her casual laziness and effortless capability.
In posing design, we avoided broad running or jumping motions, leaning instead into static postures to convey emotion. For example, gently toggling the floating star lantern on the water surface simulated an unguarded, momentary tranquility. The water surface reflections turned out beautifully, capturing intertwined reflections of light and dress hem mirroring the real subject for rich visual texture. Subtle splash effects in the background also introduced a dynamic sense of passing time into the static frame.
An aquarium is inherently a place that calms the soul; recreating Hoshino's serenity in this setting was a deeply immersive experience for me. When underwater light refractions danced across my skin and dress, it almost created the illusion that I was truly standing in that azure world. Enduring the chill and humidity of the underwater photography environment was tough during the shoot, but seeing the swimming fish and shimmering water in the final photos wiped away all fatigue. This set features no exaggerated styling shifts, aiming instead to capture the character's most genuine, natural essence in this aquarium photoshoot.
