[Xiao Wu Cosplay] Soul Land: A Sweet Bunny Ear Interpretation at Hangzhou China International Cartoon and Animation Festival

The Chinese anime cosplay photos from the 22nd at Hangzhou China International Cartoon and Animation Festival are finally sorted out! I specifically chose this Xiao Wu cosplay look from Soul Land to attend the convention.

The atmosphere at the venue was much more vibrant than expected. Especially while wearing this outfit with metallic-sheen bunny ears and an intricate silver crown headpiece, many fellow fans noticed the look and came over to ask about costume details. Standing on the stage was quite a test of physical endurance, as the entire costume had numerous decorations—especially those reflective upright ears and silver high heels. Maintaining a stable posture while staying graceful proved to be exhausting, and my feet were quite sore after a full day from morning till night.

Let me talk about the design considerations for this Sweet cosplay look. To capture the character's lively agility, I opted for a fair and translucent base makeup, focusing the eye makeup on pinkish-purple fine shimmers to mirror the bright pink of the bunny ears. The wig was a custom straight black long wig with blunt bangs, maintaining a certain volume and fluffiness so the crown wouldn't flatten the top of the hair, making the overall hairstyle look fuller. The headpiece details were extremely intricate, with silver hollowed-out metal pieces embellished with pinkish-purple gems.

For the costume fabric, a structured material was chosen to support the bust and shoulder silhouette, paired with delicately textured lace splicing. I really loved the skirt design—the smooth pink gradient gauze created a lightweight, graceful drape when walking or sitting down. The silver foiled patterns on the white tights and the silver reflective high-heeled shoes were key accents highlighting the character's refined elegance.

While taking these photos at the booth, the photographer excelled at capturing light and shadow. The venue's cool blue-and-white lighting hit the silver and pink reflective materials, beautifully highlighting their textures. To showcase the full costume, I carefully adjusted the leg-crossing angles and natural hand placements during posing, which both flattered my posture and elongated the lines of the white stockings and shoes. Beyond solo shots, I also posed with two friends attending the event; though our styles differed, we created a harmonious picture. The best part of conventions is meeting so many people who share a passion for the same culture, making conversations effortless and delightful.

The convention grounds were huge, packed with rich decorations and lighting setups everywhere, so walking over 15,000 steps throughout the day was typical. Although my feet ached, every time passersby or photographers stopped to compliment the outfit, I felt that all the time spent tweaking garment details during preparation was completely worth it. Rather than just shooting photos, I truly enjoyed having face-to-face interactions within a space bursting with anime enthusiasm.

Reflecting on this experience at Hangzhou China International Cartoon and Animation Festival, being able to immersively step into this beloved character and present the styling at the stage with utmost dedication is where my greatest joy as a cosplay enthusiast lies. Given the right scene next time, this costume will surely offer even more possibilities for presentation.
