Today on duty, I cosplayed Megurine Luka, VOCALOID's iconic pink-haired queen. This time I prepared her black-and-gold stage outfit, and the moment I received it, the texture felt phenomenal. The overall palette is dominated by black: the top is a short-sleeved piece spliced with semi-sheer black mesh, trimmed along the collar and front placket with gold piping, while the golden cord knot on the chest serves as a highlight that stays reliably in place during movement. The wide waist cincher features geometric triangular patterns in gold, brown, and deep burgundy, paired with an asymmetrical long black skirt. Its high side slit on the left allows easy movement while subtly revealing the black over-the-knee socks and glossy gold platform boots beneath.
Trimming the wig took quite a while; both the blunt forehead bangs and side tendrils had to hug my facial contours closely. Long pink locks easily look frizzy under direct light, so styling demanded extra meticulous care. I wore blue cosmetic contacts to match the overall makeup. Once the headset microphone, the sapphire necklace at my throat, and the golden bracers on my arms were all securely in place, I checked the mirror to channel the character's vibe. Luka's aura is composed, poised, and unhurried, so when posing, I strove to keep my posture tall and straight, lightly adjusting the headset or mic with my hand while projecting a subtle, self-assured confidence in my gaze. Shooting in a white studio for this Huizhou cosplay project provided an impeccably clean backdrop; as the lights came down, the reflective gold fabrics and glossy boots popped strikingly.
Because of the skirt's high slit, executing leg lifts, turns, or standing postures required moving in rhythm with the photographer. The lighting setup in the White studio photography session was exceptionally professional—the key and rim lights brought out every subtle texture of the fabrics, particularly the ornate reflections along the boots and the gold skirt trim. The female photographer I collaborated with was remarkably efficient and communicative; practically every time I struck a pose, she instantly seized the best angle. The greatest advantage of White studio photography is the lightning-fast turnaround and the pure focus it places on garment and character details. Although standing for so long in such tall platform boots made my feet rather sore, seeing the results on the monitor made it all completely worthwhile. The pairing of black stockings and boots sculpted gorgeous leg lines on camera, standing as a true highlight of this styling.
The mesh splicing on the top might get lost in dark venues, but under the high-key brightness of the white studio, its sheer transparency and layered dimension read crystal clear, with the golden cord knot adding sharp sculptural depth. While the cincher looks stunning, it must be laced tightly to preserve flattering body proportions on camera, allowing the leg lines to peek through gracefully when moving in the high-slit skirt. The boot laces also had to be tied exceptionally tight so the chunky soles wouldn't wobble when stepping onto risers, keeping my overall stance rock-solid. For pose choreography, I integrated everyday gestures infused with stage presence—such as resting a hand over my chest or angling my body slightly to accentuate the costume's contours.
After finishing this shoot, I truly felt we brought out Megurine Luka's sleek, fashionable, and slightly sci-fi aesthetic. The varied textures in the costume displayed distinct depth under the lights, creating a bold contrast between the semi-sheer mesh and the metallic fabrics. I personally adore this clean, striking style that relies neither on elaborate props nor busy backdrops, sustained purely by light, shadow, and garment craftsmanship. That wraps up today's work diary—energy was at an all-time high, and I hope to fully share this feeling while preserving the exquisite texture of this black-and-gold stage look.
