Considerable care went into restoring the garment details for this Marine unidolized version of Sonoda Umi from Love Live!. Although this sailor uniform design appears straightforward at first glance, the tailoring silhouette and fabric choice directly dictate how it wears on camera. For the top, I chose a crisp, structured cotton fabric to keep the neckline and placket sharp without collapsing limply against the torso. The pale blue necktie was fixed, and I fine-tuned its length so it fell naturally across the chest in a graceful V-shaped drape, accented at the collar by a dainty starburst brooch. Aligning the tartan pattern of the pleated skirt took time, and the pleats were pressed razor-sharp to ensure the skirt flared beautifully whether moving or sitting. The wig was styled as long, straight navy-blue hair with blunt bangs, pinned on the right with two white hair clips—a signature styling hallmark for Umi.

To align with the Rabbit-typed Umi concept in the post, hand-drawn white bunny ear effects and starry frames were added during editing, lending the overall ambiance a softer, cuter touch. The set was warmly arranged: white display shelves in the background filled with trinkets and miniatures, flanked by an oversized brown teddy bear. Sunlight streaming through the venetian blinds created an authentic sense of daily life that meshed seamlessly with the school vibe of this unidolized uniform. It was a brilliantly sunny day, and the slats cast parallel shadow stripes across the wall and subject. This natural interplay of light and shadow carried so much texture that heavy direct front lighting was unnecessary, as preserving shadows helped carve out three-dimensional depth.

In the first shot sitting on the beanbag sofa, I held a red watermelon slice prop before my face. This gesture was chosen to evoke a laid-back, summery vibe of lounging at home eating watermelon. Wearing calf-length socks for this Black socks cosplay, sitting caused the skirt to pool outward organically, giving the composition a satisfying, full look. Holding the watermelon required care not to obscure facial expressions while allowing the finger joints to bend naturally without stiffness. A purple wristband adorned my wrist, serving as a subtle personal accent amidst the dominant blue-and-white palette.

The second full-body standing shot is a personal favorite. Posing with a hand on the hip paired with a peace sign showcased the full profile of the uniform. A sailor top with a plaid skirt and black calf-high socks is a classic pairing in 2D photography; bringing vitality to such a standard pose hinges on relaxed shoulders and shifted weight. The photographer lowered the camera angle slightly, which, combined with the striped blinds' shadows, accentuated three-dimensionality and visually elongated the legs. Both the arm span and finger curvature were micro-adjusted to ensure bodily lines remained fluid rather than rigid.

The shooting went by briskly, mostly spent smoothing skirt folds and keeping wig strands aligned. Because the Marine unidolized ensemble lacks complex accessories, the final image quality relied heavily on lighting and model demeanor. The weather was lovely and interior daylight was ample, saving us the trouble of elaborate fill lighting. For makeup, we accentuated the eye contours through subtle eyeshadow blending and defined eyeliner, paired with deep-toned contact lenses to soften the gaze in line with Umi's poised personality, keeping the base matte and fresh to prevent shine from ruining texture.

The Rabbit-typed Umi premise is delightful—rather than being assertive, it offers a gentle, quiet sense of companionship. Although Umi is typically earnest and disciplined, holding a watermelon slice in such a domestic scene and striking casual poses brought out her relaxed, private side. Forgoing grand, theatrical backdrops in favor of this cozy corner filled with plush toys and wooden furniture was intentional, highlighting everyday warmth. Chromatically, the deep blue hair and skirt contrasted against the crisp white top, while the warm wood tones and teddy bear in the background harmonized the entire palette. The bright red watermelon prop stood out vividly, serving as a dynamic visual anchor. I hope this set conveys a refreshingly different atmosphere for everyone.
