The theme for this shoot was Summer water play, set poolside at Chimelong Water Park. To beat the peak crowds, we arrived on-site early to begin preparations. Outdoor waterside photography offers fantastic advantages in lighting: dappled tree shadows cast across the blue tiles paired with reflections off the water surface gave the compositions an exceptionally clean, luminous clarity.
For hair and makeup styling, the look combined a blonde twintail wig with fantasy-inspired Elf ears. To complement the overall style, the makeup focused on the eyes, utilizing light blue contact lenses and soft pink blush to boost vibrant radiance. Shooting outdoors calls for dependable foundation longevity, especially in humid waterside conditions; I relied on heavy-duty setting spray to keep sweat from breaking down the makeup.
The wardrobe featured a red bikini with white polka dots, styled alongside distressed denim shorts with red-and-white checkered side ties. The crimson Swimsuit created an eye-catching visual contrast against the surrounding lush greenery and blue pool. Sunglasses perched on the head and strawberry accessories served as playful accents, lending extra vibrancy to the styling.
The shooting session revolved around posing and framing angles. The first frontal pose tugging at the twintails aimed to showcase the bikini's cut and the waistline, placing high demands on core engagement to keep the abdomen tight and posture upright. The second shot—turning back sideways—leveraged a gentle torso twist to elongate the leg lines while maintaining communicative eye contact; the winking expression was caught in a split-second candid snapshot. The third look draped a loose white shirt over the shoulders to cultivate a touch of casual languor, simultaneously flattering the arm contours. When shooting near water, slip prevention is crucial—wet tiles become slippery fast, so every movement must be deliberate and steady.
The photographer excelled at seizing natural, candid moments, making our teamwork seamless. Posing poolside requires balancing facial expressions with subtle muscular lines; for instance, pointing the calves straight when kneeling delivers a far cleaner silhouette. The greenery at Chimelong grows lushly, rendering into a soft, uncluttered bokeh that never overpowers the subject.
Swimsuit photography is surprisingly demanding on posture, requiring stretching beforehand to prevent stiff lines. In intense outdoor sun, turning slightly off-axis from the main light source carves out richer three-dimensional contours. Despite the summer heat, being by the water in swimwear felt delightfully refreshing. The initial wardrobe adjustments took time, but seeing the final images proved every bit of prep was worthwhile. For anyone planning a shoot by the water, taking waterproofing and slip-prevention precautions while keeping extra dry towels handy is essential—we used ours throughout the day. The entire shoot stayed lighthearted and fun, and the resulting set met every expectation.
