Combining this Red stage costume with an intense High-angle shot was originally intended to re-edit a set that captures the stage atmosphere of Houshou Marine's recent new song release. Although I joked about riding the trend wave, immense thought and care actually went into both the initial shoot and the post-processing polish. The shoot was booked with photographer Xiao Liu Nian; the high-angle perspective of this lens truly tested our coordination. To project an intimate energy that pulls the audience directly into the stage interaction zone, I lowered my center of gravity significantly while striking this forward-reaching pose, repeatedly adjusting the angle of my wrist and fingers to achieve that direct, punchy impact piercing toward the lens.
In terms of wardrobe, this red-and-white Red stage costume is packed with highlight details. The massive red bow on the chest with the centered sapphire rhinestone serves as the visual centerpiece of the entire top; to prevent distortion, we specifically illuminated this area during lighting setup so the rhinestone reflections echoed the surrounding gold piping. The white shorts and black thigh-high socks with lace trim below formed a lively yet subtly sultry little-devil vibe, with the Lace leg garter outfit detailing matching the wild and playful nuances of the character design. The red-and-white color scheme inherently carries a high-saturation vibrancy, perfectly fitting the energetic and dynamic impression that hololive's virtual idol project consistently delivers.
The lighting on the day of the shoot wasn't particularly ideal, so in post-processing, we intentionally added intense highlights and lens flare effects to simulate the dazzling brilliance of stage spotlights beaming straight down, which, combined with superimposed floating red petals, fully brought out the immersive stage presence. While these lighting effects might make certain areas look less realistic, for an idol-themed cosplay piece, I felt this dreamy, radiant filter created much stronger immersion. I originally thought about grading it in a cleaner, minimalist aesthetic, but upon reflection, a character like Houshou Marine should be surrounded by vibrant light flares flooding the frame to feel truly fiery and passionate.
Regarding the new song, I had it on loop for quite a while before publishing these photos; its cheerful, energetic, and catchy melody resonated wonderfully with the dynamic flow of this styling. While joking about jumping on trends, as a photographer and cosplayer, using a new song release as an opportunity to revisit past stock footage and craft a fresh edit that matches the character's current aura is, in itself, a meaningful dedication to my passion. Retouching is often more than just skin smoothing and color grading—to maintain portrait depth and fabric texture contrasts, I applied detailed zone adjustments to fine-tune the sheen of the red textile and brighten the white gloves, doing my best to make the frame shine with stage highlights without turning gray or muddy.
To be frank, everything from lighting to framing with a High-angle shot was a bit of a challenge. A wide-angle top-down shot can easily distort proportions or make legs look warped, requiring precise perspective control during the studio session. In the final shots, I was very pleased with the expressions captured in several candid frames—carrying that confident, slightly smug smirk paired with the reaching hand gesture, making me feel as though I were truly standing on that dazzling stage rather than on a studio floor. The longer I do cosplay, the more I feel that what defines the ceiling of a photoshoot is not just beautiful garments, but the synergy between the photographer and the character, along with that bold dedication when brushing on that final highlight in post-production software.
