Stepping onto the convention floor of the CICF China International Comics Festival Anime & Game Expo, today's feature was hololive's Gura. To present my very best self on site, I started early in the morning prepping hair and makeup. The silver-white wig accented with pastel-blue highlights needed thorough smoothing treatments beforehand, otherwise it tends to look frizzy under intense convention hall lighting. To match the canon aesthetic, I selected high-pigment, vibrant bright-blue contact lenses. For eye makeup, a sweeping wash of pink and red was blended across the lower lash line to elongate the eye shape, paired with distinctly separated false lashes to forge that anime-inspired gaze brimming with innocent vivacity.

The color palette of this outfit is exceptionally eye-catching. A vibrant azure beret was tilted playfully on my head, while the pink ribbons on both pigtails were accented with dangling blue beaded charms. The costume itself is a white-and-blue sailor-style off-the-shoulder top, knotted at the chest with a pink plaid ribbon tie, from which blue sashes printed with white motifs cascade down. The lower half features a baby-blue pleated skirt cinched with a clean white belt. Although the outfit incorporates rich layering, navigating a high-temperature convention hall remained quite manageable as long as I stayed in well-ventilated areas. Thanks to the puffed sleeves and structured armbands, dynamic gestures never distorted the clothing's silhouette, while the off-the-shoulder cut offered a welcome touch of breeziness.

Convention hall lighting always poses a significant hurdle for cosplayers. Overhead downlights striking straight from above easily cast unflattering shadows across the face. When scouting angles on site, I deliberately sought out spots with soft rim light or gentle overhead diffusion, using a handheld mini fan as a prop that cooled me down while injecting candid, everyday life into my poses. Gestures captured in the frames—such as curving both hands into kitten paws or pointing a single finger upward—were all designed to channel the character's bubbly personality. Maintaining a natural smile and lively eye contact with the camera was paramount, and the photographer successfully froze countless spontaneous, kinetic moments.

On the convention floor, I ran into numerous fellow fans who share a deep love for hololive. Gathering before the booths, everyone chatted about their fondness for the characters and helped one another straighten out wigs and wardrobe details. As a seasoned cosplayer, I believe steaming garments and brushing wigs thoroughly in advance are absolute fundamentals. In a bustling, loud convention environment, slipping into character rapidly without getting distracted by surrounding crowds and keeping your focus locked on the photographer's lens is the key to producing top-tier convention photos. Gura's look is visually striking in its color vibrancy; while the expo background was packed with attendees, that festive hustle and bustle actually served to highlight the character's infectious energy.

The biggest difference between outdoor location shoots and convention floors is the complexity of ambient lighting. Shooting inside the expo hall this time, I specifically asked the photographer to calibrate custom white balance to faithfully reproduce the true colors of the fabrics and wig. Honestly, assembling a complete cosplay look—from makeup tests and wig styling to tuning your energy on site—is an absolute joy from start to finish. For this appearance at CICF, from prop maintenance to on-camera presence, I did my utmost to deliver a performance I'm truly proud of. Along the way, I also gathered plenty of valuable on-site shooting experience, such as utilizing small props to break visual ice and leveraging kinetic posing to showcase garment details. I hope every cosplay outing marks another step forward in bringing characters vividly to life.
