Over the past few days at the 2025 Port District Midsummer Cool Festival, I truly put a lot of thought into preparing for this event. The booth setup was packed with sci-fi technology vibes: blue neon light tubes, a black metal mesh backdrop, and several yellow caution tapes printed with unique patterns pushed the booth's atmosphere to the absolute max. This monochrome black-and-white outfit carries the aesthetic charm of traditional garments while incorporating lightweight 2D-style tailoring, making it quite comfortable to move around in. Especially noteworthy is the black halter top—the metallic accessories across the chest reflected light remarkably well under the booth's illumination, while the sheer white tulle sleeves created a natural, ethereal flow whenever I raised my arms or walked.
The white shorts underneath, paired with pure white stockings (a clean White thigh-highs outfit), were another key focal point of this look. Wearing white stockings is quite demanding on leg contours, but pairing them with white lace-up high heels visually elongated my legs, giving the overall silhouette a more slender proportion. To match the character styling for this Peter Strasser cosplay from Azur Lane, I chose long straight black hair; the white fluffy pom-pom hair accessories and beaded tassel hairpins at the crown added charming details to the cool, crisp color palette. For makeup, I specifically intensified the red shading around my eyes, which made my gaze look brighter and clearer under the complex interplay of warm and cool ambient light at the booth.
During the shoot, I experimented with several different poses. First was sitting on the edge of the stage with legs naturally crossed—this angle is great for showcasing the full layered depth of the outfit, and the height of the stage allowed the camera to capture complete leg lines and details. The blue-cyan neon lights behind the stage cast beautiful reflections on the white garments and stockings, instantly enriching the color spectrum. For the second shot, I raised both hands, using the wide tulle sleeves to frame the composition while revealing the waistline, making the motion appear lively and dynamic.
For the third shot, I moved down to the ground in a one-knee-down pose with one leg extended forward. This posture tested balance control, but delivered greater visual tension through the camera lens. The massive yellow mascot plush beside me served as a fantastic convention prop, making the whole scene much more vibrant and dynamic. Whenever participating in a convention as a cosplayer, the most exhausting parts are usually putting on and taking off wigs and intricate garments, all while maintaining the character's poise in crowded halls and constantly checking for creases or a crooked wig. However, the on-site atmosphere was fantastic—gathering with fellow fans who share the same passion, helping each other find great angles, and discussing lighting techniques.
In my experience, when shooting in complex lighting environments at anime conventions, staying close to side lights or top lights helps not only reveal clothing textures but also makes skin tones look more translucent. The booth design was very distinctive: industrial-style walls paired with cyberpunk lighting effects, especially those bright light tubes directly illuminating the white stockings, creating a unique visual focus. The shoot also brought out a few minor challenges—for instance, keeping the halter-neck design smooth and flat along the back required constant adjustments—but thankfully I was in great shape that day, and our chemistry with the photographer was seamless. Faithfully capturing the textures and details of an outfit in a specific environment is truly one of the greatest joys of creating a Cosplay anime convention photo recap, and an immensely rewarding milestone.
