This photo set was captured in a carefully built Japanese style set. Having established the theme of a leisurely tea time at the shrine, preparing comprehensive props was essential. The crimson oil-paper umbrella, red lanterns, origami cranes, and the background shoji sliding doors, combined with this red-and-white shrine maiden outfit, firmly set the overall visual tone. This costume actually features rich details—white lace trims paired with an oversized red bow—and because the fabric carries substantial weight, lying down required constant micro-adjustments to achieve the best natural drape. We deliberately scheduled the shoot in the afternoon, allowing sunlight to filter through the paper doors to create a gentle backlight effect, which softened the bold red fabrics and added a warm, gentle ambiance.

While lying down, I sought out the most relaxed state, resting my cheek on my hand to emulate her quiet, carefree idling around the shrine. As for why I posted these two specific images, they are actually variations from the same raw shot: the first uncropped version preserves the complete prop edges, resembling a cinematic freeze-frame from a Japanese drama; for the second image, I added cinematic black letterboxing bars and bilingual subtitles at the bottom, lending it an evocative film aesthetic.

Controlling on-site lighting and prop shadows took considerable trial and error. We initially considered using more red umbrellas for framing, but realized excessive color weight cluttered the composition, so we confined them strictly to the left side and background. In post-processing, I prioritized preserving fabric textures and natural facial skin luster rather than over-smoothing, as this vintage Japanese style aesthetic looks much more timeless with organic textures, truly honoring the character's carefree, unrestrained persona. From set dressing to shooting, this session took extensive time, but capturing that serene tranquility of leisurely sipping tea at the shrine made the entire Reimu Hakurei Cosplay Convention photo experience in Touhou Project deeply rewarding.
