From garment tailoring to the final shots, great care went into crafting this Chessboard Banquet themed look for C.C. As an iconic figure in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, C.C. inherently exudes an aura of mystery and aloof grandeur. To match the 'Queen C.C.' vision described in the concept, the costume was tailored from rich navy velvet bordered with gold metallic embroidery. Cutout tailoring across the chest and midriff, combined with a high-slit sweeping train, not only elevated the garment's visual layers but also flattered body lines across various poses. The custom long green wig was carefully layered with a gentle curl at the ends so that, when caught in the wind machine, it traced elegant, sweeping trajectories in frame. A single golden tassel hair ornament and an ornate jeweled choker around the neck brought an opulent finish. For the eyes, yellowish-green contacts paired with red-brown eyeshadow faithfully recreated her trademark distant gaze.
The shoot was staged in a massive industrial venue where exposed metal piping and cool overhead fixtures formed a sharp, striking contrast with the blue dress. To capture the dynamic sweep of the fluttering hem and billowing hair, we utilized wind machines alongside low-angle upward compositions. The seated shots resting against the Roman column prop were particularly demanding on core strength: the high slit required vigilance to prevent accidental exposure, demanding precise leg placement while keeping the upper torso poised, upright, and regally relaxed. I especially love Figure 2 with both hands lifting the skirt; pulling the velvet taut showcased the garment's precise cut and elongated leg lines, infusing dramatic tension into the frame. Spreading the dramatic train across the floor required careful arranging to fan out radial folds that looked majestic on camera. On my feet, black strappy high heels adorned with star charms introduced a hint of playfulness into the sensual aesthetic. When standing and lifting the skirt, keeping my spine erect and shoulders rolled back was crucial to carry the substantial weight of the sweeping gown.
The Chessboard Banquet theme offered endless inspiration. In choreographing poses, I strove to merge C.C.'s nonchalant detachment with her commanding, total control over the room. Whether looking back over my shoulder with an extended arm or lounging against set props, my gaze remained unshakeably grounded. To accentuate back contours, the over-the-shoulder glance in Figure 1 required countless takes to ensure the twisted torso looked supple rather than strained, with hand gestures falling gracefully into place. Given the extensive train, moving between spots meant holding the waistband high to prevent tripping. For lighting, circular overhead arena lamps acted as key lights, supported by soft lateral fills to sculpt facial depth while preserving the gritty, cold ambiance of the industrial backdrop. The shoot spanned over three hours, cycling through several backdrops and lighting setups. Earlier fitting sessions also refined the waist measurement and slit height to ensure flawless proportions before the lens. I hope everyone feels the elaborate garment details and the commanding aura we sought to convey.
