This photoshoot took place in front of an indoor set featuring a red telephone booth, framed by a black-and-white London Big Ben streetscape backdrop behind it. The color contrast throughout the scene is exceptionally strong—the large expanse of red against the monochromatic backdrop perfectly sets off this dark-toned Gothic style dress.
Starting with the styling details: the short purple-blue hair is the character's signature feature. The wig fibers are smooth, with bangs trimmed short to rest just above the eyebrows, while the curves of the sideburns were fine-tuned to refine the face shape. A massive black lace bow was pinned to the side of the crown; its raw distressed edges complement the vintage vibe of the dress perfectly. This time, I deliberately wore lenses for Heterochromia—a vivid ocean blue for the right eye and a warm golden amber for the left. The stark color contrast stands out clearly under soft indoor lighting, lending a touch of mystery to my gaze. The base makeup was kept matte and fair, using only a light coral lip gloss to brighten my complexion without heavy contouring, preserving a hint of youthful innocence.
The layering of the costume is more complex than imagined. The inner piece is a pure white cotton shirt with delicate ruffles along the collar and cuffs, tied with a short black ribbon at the neckline. Over it is a black corset-style vest featuring lace trim paneling on the front and a dangling silver-gray satin bow in the center; its firm structure cinches the waist beautifully. The sleeves are dark blue puff sleeves crafted from Jacquard fabric with subtle patterns, offering just enough volume without broadening the shoulders, instead adding a touch of elegance. The lower half features a dark blue multi-tiered ruffled short skirt with fluffy white lining underneath, naturally fanning out like flower petals when sitting down. Paired with a Black tights outfit, it visually elongates leg lines while grounding the overall color scheme in a sophisticated tone.
As for shooting angles and poses, I experimented with quite a few candid dynamic shots this time—hands on hips tilting slightly upward, resting my chin on one hand looking into the camera, or reaching forward in interactive poses as if pulling someone from outside the frame. Since the red telephone booth in the set was stationary, I primarily relied on shifting sitting postures and torso inclinations to enrich the visual compositions. During the actual shoot, the photographer guided my eye focus—some called for looking straight at the lens for sharpness, others looking upward to convey a sense of longing, and a few where I deliberately blanked my expression to let the makeup and eye color take center stage. The side-profile shot was captured very naturally, showing the clean line extending from jaw to neck without large earrings to maintain a crisp look.
Honestly, wearing the corset part of this costume for a long time was a bit tight, and the puff sleeves posed some resistance when raising my arms, but to faithfully recreate the character's disposition, these minor details were easily ignored. The colored contacts were worn for nearly four hours without notable dryness and were comfortable enough. The wig was made of heat-resistant synthetic fiber with plenty of setting spray, keeping the bangs from blowing out of place during various movements. Switching between different sitting postures and hand gestures throughout the shoot yielded around thirty to forty shots, and I'm thoroughly pleased with the overall mood of the finalized selection.
The red telephone booth served as an exceptionally photogenic prop—it not only provided a vivid color anchor but also imbued the frame with urban vintage drama fit for a Photography exhibition. The monochromatic backdrop minimized environmental clutter, drawing all focus onto the character. No extra special effect filters were added this time, relying mainly on onsite studio lighting: two softboxes were set up at the front-side and top-side, controlling facial shadows softly so the dimensional depth around eye sockets and nose bridge surfaced naturally. I hope this set conveys that uniquely quirky, earnest, and unconventional character state, and that viewers can appreciate the effort poured into this styling.
