On-site Convention photos from the May Day Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo—this time completing the photo set for Cinderella from GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE. Because the character possesses very distinct visual motifs—long silver-gray twin-tails, a black-trimmed headband, and white floral hair accessories on the side—special care was needed for wig management regarding smoothness and overall volume. In particular, the base of high twin-tails can easily look flat if not handled properly, so numerous hairnets and bobby pins were used for anchoring. The costume primarily features a white lace underskirt and a lustrous silver-gray translucent tulle overskirt, centered around a specially designed cutout halter structure on the chest, accented with delicate black cross chains and a pendant. Together with the thick black choker at the neck and the black silk bow at the waist, this creates a cohesive black-white-gray contrast and echo.
In terms of lighting, the convention venue was inside a massive exhibition hall with harsh overhead ambient light and polished gray tile floors that naturally carried a metallic sheen. To make the subject pop against the slightly cluttered crowd background while maintaining the character's cool, fair, and translucent skin tone, a Godox ML100Bi was used as the primary key light, paired with a softbox for diffused fill light. This portable continuous light source is exceptionally practical in such halls, offering a stable and controllable color rendering index without adding heavy baggage. The cool-toned lighting blended seamlessly with the silver garments, especially when striking the semi-sheer outer tulle, reflecting a sparkling starry shimmer that felt both lightweight and dreamy. Simultaneously, the softbox cast very smooth, even transitional light across the model's face without harsh specular glare, eliminating the need for excessive post-processing adjustments along facial shadow lines.
With people constantly coming and going, the advantage of a wide aperture was distinctly evident in this venue. Combined with the compression of a telephoto lens, it effectively blurred out surrounding pedestrians and exhibition boards, preserving a large, cool-toned bokeh background. We also explored diverse camera angles during the shoot: low-angle full-body shots elongated physical proportions, especially accentuating the leg lines in silver pointed stiletto heels paired with a White thigh-highs outfit of semi-sheer white stockings that created a unified silhouette. There were also crouching and half-kneeling angles that interacted naturally with the floor at a low visual perspective. The silver reflective shoes and white stockings cast crisp reflections onto the polished floor, providing a delightful accent to the visual composition.
The entire shoot process, from donning the wig and adjusting the costume to wrapping the final shot, took around an hour and a half. The costume fabrics were remarkably light and airy, so as I walked or posed, the outer silver tulle fluttered freely with my posture, adding dynamic energy to the frame. The inner white dress was form-fitting, neatly cinching the waistline in upright standing poses.
The crowd density at Firefly ACG Expo during the May Day holiday was immense, with vibrant activities across every exhibition area. Being able to secure such a relatively clean shooting environment is credit to the photographer's command of the scene and acute sensitivity to light. Producing a complete character set is never just about wearing the costume and standing before the lens; it is the creative team's shared interpretation and presentation of the character's aura. The cool-toned lighting, clean framing, and the model's own state culminated in these highly satisfying Convention photos. For someone who frequently shoots on location or at conventions, adapting portable gear to complex ambient light is an ongoing pursuit, and experimenting with the Godox ML100Bi truly delivered an unexpectedly clean, luminous transparency.
