Shooting this Japanese-style photoshoot look for Hiyuki in Wuthering Waves, what initially captivated me was the red-and-white color palette and that unique aura poised between cool detachment and ornate elegance. For the wig, I selected silver-white hair, deliberately tying up both sides at the crown and pinning red bow ornaments to add youthful charm. The eye makeup was crucial; to match the crimson pupils, the eyeshadow was deeply blended, and wearing red colored contacts instantly transformed my entire presence. The costume features rich structural layering—the upper body is an off-the-shoulder white top with black edge piping and a striking golden cross embellishment across the chest. The lower half is a red-and-purple skirt draped with a layer of sheer white lace tulle. Throughout the shoot, I kept adjusting these fabrics to ensure they presented a natural, airy flutter on camera. Moreover, I chose to appear as a Barefoot girl, tying thin golden cord anklets around my ankles, which felt true to the character's design while imbuing the composition with subtle weightlessness.
The set design was truly crafted with meticulous care. The wooden floor was blanketed with scattered pink cherry blossom petals, against a backdrop of a colossal cherry blossom tree and faux blossoms, complemented by Japanese-style latticed shoji screens and white hanging lanterns that instantly conjured the required atmosphere. In terms of props, the red-and-white katana and the red Cherry blossom wagasa adorned with white crane motifs added tremendous depth. When holding the blade, I consciously adjusted my standing or seated postures so the scabbard's colors harmonized with the costume. The warm hue of the red umbrella also formed a wonderful contrast against the cool-blue backdrop curtain.
For the seated pose in photo 1, I sat sideways with crossed legs, resting clasped hands on my knees while directing my gaze slightly outside the frame to convey a serene, meditative composure. Photo 2 featured a front-facing angle towards the camera, resting my chin in both hands and looking straight down the lens to bring out a more playful side. During shooting, the photographer constantly reminded me to adjust my leg angles and shoulder height; holding this seated posture can easily look bulky on camera, so maintaining poise required considerable core effort. When the light spilled over the set, the entire scene turned tender and pink, yet under the balancing presence of the blue curtain, it never felt excessively saccharine.
Overall, this shoot achieved my envisioned results in both costume fidelity and ambient scene building. While we didn't venture into a real outdoor location, the studio's cherry blossoms and Japanese décor proved more than enough to cultivate the desired mood. Packing up the props while looking at the fallen cherry petals strewn across the floor, it genuinely felt as though I had just stepped out of an alternate realm.
