[Ram and Rem cosplay] Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World Comiday 30 Convention Photos

The Convention photos from Comiday 30 are finally out! This time my sister and I did a Ram and Rem cosplay together. Ever since we made this plan, we had been waiting for the right opportunity, and we finally chose Comiday 30 to make it happen. As a classic duo from a timeless series like Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, accuracy and texture were what we valued most.

Let's talk about the wigs first. The custom blue and pink wigs required a significant volume of hair to achieve the fluffy feel of the original design. Although straight bangs are standard, we repeatedly compared official art before trimming to achieve a soft, fluffy texture that framed our faces. We used plenty of hairspray and styling wax during prep to ensure the bangs fit the eye area perfectly.

The outfit complexity far exceeded expectations. Especially the crisscross straps on the arm sleeves—to keep them tight around our arms without slipping, we sewed hidden snaps on the inside, which took quite a bit of effort to put on. The skirt used multi-layered lace splicing craftsmanship, along with abundant ribbons and bow decorations. To be honest, sitting or moving in these clothes created strong restraint around the legs, but the gorgeous look shown in the final photos completely made up for the discomfort. As cosplayers doing Sister cosplay, we always prioritize accuracy over comfort.

For makeup, the eye makeup for these characters is highly distinctive. This time, we used dramatic mascara to meticulously build defined bottom lashes, pairing them with matching colored contacts. The winged, upswept eyeliner highlighted the character's unique demeanor. We kept the base makeup matte because complex venue lights inside the hall can cause oily skin to ruin photo texture.

As for the Comiday 30 convention experience, the venue layout had new updates this year, staying orderly despite crowds. Many photographers were present, and we tried multiple angles. That extreme low-angle, looking-up composition in the first picture really tested coordination, requiring tilted heads while keeping expressions intact. Duo shoots yielded better results than solo ones because we could coordinate eye contact and movements to capture the bond between sisters. The hall's lighting was mixed, so we later found a spot with strong contrast and used a reflector for atmospheric shots.

The focal length used in this shoot was ideal for portraits, beautifully highlighting lace fabric textures and wig reflections. Although convention lighting can be chaotic, on-site fill light gear and subtle post-processing retouches made skin tones bright and clean. In post-processing, we carefully preserved the true fabric texture without over-smoothing, as slight creases reflect the realistic wearing effect of the outfit.

Regarding wig care, to maintain styling across several days of the event, we rolled them with curlers every night and wrapped them in hairnets to preserve volume. The next morning required only light combing before hitting the floor. Because blue and pink tend to reflect glaring light under camera lenses, lighting angles were specifically adjusted to avoid harsh white highlights on the wigs.

During the photoshoot, many fans recognized the characters from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World and asked for photos, which was incredibly rewarding. Although walking around the convention was exhausting—especially with backaches from standing—the joy of offline socializing cannot be matched by retouching photos at home.

During retouching, we kept the structural proportions of the raw shots as much as possible, focusing on tidying stray wig hairs and tweaking fabric brightness. To fit the bright daylight feel of Comiday 30, we didn't intentionally lower exposure. I've grown accustomed to the excitement and nerves before releasing official photos, and seeing the final results makes all the hard work worthwhile.

This Sister cosplay duo had wonderful synergy. I hope to work on more projects with my sister in the future. Although wearing heavy costumes in summer is very hot, looking back at these Ram and Rem cosplay photos, they are precious shared memories.
