Changing into this Arlecchino outfit and standing under the huge glass curtain wall of the stroller outdoor venue, this Genshin Impact cosplay shoot has finally presented the desired effect.
The location selected for this shoot is highly characteristic. The rough-textured industrial steel frame structure of the outdoor field, combined with the cracked gaps on the ground and the reflection of rainwater puddles after the rain, is exceptionally suitable for showcasing the Knave's ruthless temperament. To match the character's tension-filled movements, I specifically adjusted my standing posture and the distribution of my center of gravity. Especially when holding that large long-handled scythe prop with my right hand, because the prop itself has solid material and the center of gravity leans upward, wanting to swing it with a single hand to achieve a sense of lightweight agility truly tested my arm's muscle control. Several times, to find a stable reflection angle for the blade, I repeatedly held it up for a long duration.
Speaking of the details of this attire, the entire costume has a strong sense of layering. The upper body's black leather corset and collar area are embellished with metal rivets and chains, while the silver-grey shoulder pads and wide red sleeves increase the sense of visual weight. The overall tailoring perfectly fits the character's dangerous yet elegant setting. The lower body features a spliced asymmetrical design; the slit of the silver-grey long skirt combined with the patent leather over-the-knee boots not only elongates the body lines but also reveals the lace-up elements when walking and posing, keeping the entire look from appearing too dull. For makeup, I chose a darker grey-black eyeshadow palette, paired with a sharp silver-white short hair wig, striving to recreate that aloofness and oppression of a superior.
In terms of photography, the natural light on-site filtered down through the high lattice windows, paving a color tone leaning toward cool grey over the frame. The reflection on the ground was an unexpected surprise, just right allowing the tip of the long-handled weapon to form a color harmony with the scattered red petals and the ruined red cloth beneath my feet. During the shoot, to capture the dynamic tension of that moment, I extended my left hand outward, attempting to simulate a casting posture that controls the entire situation. At the same time, I had to pay attention to the trajectory of the hair strands so that the wig wouldn't look too stiff. Although I spent several hours tossing back and forth carrying the heavy prop, seeing those cold gazes and sharp lines frozen in the final photos made everything feel well worth it.
This set of photos mainly wants to emphasize the character's inherent sense of oppression, so during editing, we didn't overly soften the light and shadow. Instead, we preserved some crisp, sharp highlights along the edges of the metal and leather, letting the industrial texture of the figure and the background blend together better. In the process of roleplay, the hardest part is actually grasping that core of the Knave being unfazed by changing situations; beyond the external costumes and props, it is more necessary to pass down this aura in the gaze and micro-expressions. This shoot experimented with quite a few different movements and perspectives, hoping to present a richer side of this well-crafted cosplay work, showcasing the unique stylistic charm of Genshin Impact characters through professional anime-style photography.
