Today, this summer-themed Original Character styling is finally here for everyone to see. The core concept of this design is sweet summer gentleness, so extensive thought was poured into the wardrobe and overall styling for this Summer outfit.
First, about the wig: I chose a short white bob as the base. To add dimension, the sides at the crown were braided, and the base of the twintails was secured with oversized dark-brown bows accented with white plush details. The texture of the white hair glints brilliantly under the sun; styling it required plenty of hairspray and a flat iron to keep the bangs and tips looking voluminous yet crisp. Outdoor shooting is always a real test for wigs since any breeze can dishevel them, so during breaks between takes, I was constantly gently readjusting the curve of the ends to ensure hair strands flowed smoothly in frame.
For makeup, to suit the cute and spirited personality of this Original Character, I chose pale violet-blue contact lenses to enhance eye translucency. The eye makeup used peach-toned blending paired with distinct, separated false lashes to maximize a wide-eyed, innocent look. Blush was dusted beneath the eyes and across the apples of the cheeks, while lips were finished with a soft pink lip tint, keeping the overall makeup clean and fresh. The black leather choker around my neck formed a bold stylistic contrast with the slender silver necklace, adding a subtly rebellious touch while making the neck appear more slender.
Let's dive into the outfit itself. The blue sleeveless top made of denim fabric features a deliberate white lace patchwork collar and crisscross lacing across the chest, tied into a knot below and adorned with two tiny red cherries. The most distinct feature is the ruched waist, swelling into a Denim bubble skirt silhouette at the hem that flatters the figure with great sculptural presence, bobbing lightly with every step. The garment is also scattered with matching cord knots and red cherry embellishments. For the bottom, it was paired with double-layered ruffled shorts pieced with brown satin and off-white lace; the luster of the satin and the matte texture of the denim created a wonderful visual dialogue.
On the day of the shoot, we were in the outdoor area of the convention; it had just rained, and the damp ground actually added cool, atmospheric reflections to the frame. Photographer Ku Wan is adept at capturing motion candidly, and poses like curled cat paws, hands on hips, fingers pointing at cheeks, or pinching my twintails were all caught in very relaxed moments. The shot with both fists resting beside my cheeks was actually mimicking a pouting cat, which felt delightful paired with this outfit. Another photo with an index finger against my lips was meant to convey a moment of thought or playful mystery. The hands-on-hips shot was specifically meant to showcase the voluminous silhouette of the Denim bubble skirt, which, combined with a slight low angle, visually elongated my leg lines and brought harmonious proportions to the overall frame.
To get great results for Convention photos, clear communication with the photographer is just as essential as costumes and makeup. For example, when choosing backgrounds, avoiding crowds to focus near pillars or open spaces, and using a wide aperture to blur out background distractions allows the subject to pop cleanly. The puddles on the ground required careful light angling; utilized slightly, they added wonderful atmospheric depth. The overall color grading was kept restrained, preserving the natural texture of the denim blue and brown combination.
As an Original Character (OC) design, free from the constraints of specific IPs, there was so much creative freedom in styling this OC cosplay. White twintails paired with a Denim bubble skirt create a Summer outfit that embodies refreshing coolness while maintaining sweet gentleness. In selecting fabrics, the structured stiffness of denim and the soft drape of ruffles balance each other, preventing the look from feeling overly sweet.
