Sharing this set of Scaramouche (Genshin Impact) cosplay photoshoot, with the outdoor location chosen at an overcast beach. Although the post description says "deeply buried in snow," we didn't actually have snow during the shoot; instead, we utilized the gray-blue tones where the sea meets the sky and the cool-toned landscape, paired with the character's white clothes and black collar, to simulate that chilly and lonely atmosphere.
The costume for this shoot is the iconic white robe, paired with a black fur collar and dark inner layer. The wig and hat on the head were also styled accordingly, striving to match the character's temperament. The fabric of this robe is very thick; although it was a bit heavy to walk in on the beach, when the sea breeze blew, the flowing arc of the hem gave the frame an exceptional tension. Fixing the wig was also a key focus of this shoot because the wind at the beach was strong, requiring repeated adjustments to the angle and the amount of hairspray to maintain the overall shape in the wind.
Let's talk about the thought process behind choosing the cover image. Out of these two photos, I chose Image 1 as the main visual cover for this release. From a compositional standpoint, Image 1 places the character in the front-left position of the frame, with the open sea and the silhouettes of distant mountains behind, free from any redundant or complex elements blocking the view. The visual focus is highly concentrated, and the overall look is very clean and sharp. On the other hand, although Image 2 fully presents the long breakwater on the right side and that white beacon tower—offering a more open spatial extension suitable as a supplementary image—the platform watermark in the lower right corner disrupts the purity of the frame, making it less suitable as the cover image.
When shooting outdoors for beach photography, controlling the relationship between the foreground and background is especially important. The photographer found a very suitable camera position this time, making the height of the sea level roughly even with the character's shoulders. This way, we captured the soft white sand beneath our feet without making the vast ocean behind look too oppressive, instead highlighting that sense of loneliness in the wilderness. To protect against the seawater, we also took care to avoid higher waves during the shoot, but we still accidentally got our shoes and pants cuffs wet. However, for the sake of the final photo effects, these small troubles were well worth it.
For the overall look, I maintained a cooler makeup style. Combined with the diffused natural light unique to overcast days, the color saturation of the entire image is on the lower side, presenting a heavy effect akin to a cinematic texture. The fur collar design at the neckline of this costume has a nice sense of layers; to keep it from clumping together, I had to spend time fluffing it up during breaks in the shoot. During post-processing, I kept the true hue of the seawater and only slightly dimmed the highlights, allowing a natural transition between the gray of the sky and the deep cyan of the ocean. This bleak color tone actually fits the character's own emotional coloring perfectly.
This shoot leaned more toward an emotional vibe, without too many exaggerated physical actions; I just remained contained within the robe, standing quietly and looking out at the distant sea level. I feel that this state instead manages to convey a sense of strength beneath the calm. When shooting this kind of Genshin Impact cosplay character, gaze and posture are crucial. As long as the standing posture is natural and relaxed, paired with the draping effect of the costume, the tone of the frame can be controlled perfectly.
