During this Shigure Ui cosplay (cosplay) Convention photos shoot, mastering the facial expression was by far the greatest challenge. To faithfully recreate that look of extreme disdain toward 'small fry' and 'filthy pigs,' I practiced eyelid muscle and lip-corner control countless times in front of the mirror. It requires not only looking down with the eyes, but also slightly furrowing the brows and lifting the chin slightly to convey that haughty, condescending attitude. To make the disgusted face look spot-on on camera, a lot of effort went into hair and makeup styling as well. Red-toned eyeshadow was the focal point; to match the overall ambiance, it was clearly blended around the eye sockets, while pale green contact lenses gave the gaze a sharper, piercing edge. The wig was styled into Blonde twin-tails accented with white fluffy pom-pom hair ties on both sides, keeping the overall silhouette light and airy.
The outfit consists of a navy-blue pleated pinafore dress paired with a white long-sleeved blouse, tied with a red ribbon bow at the collar, a black belt at the waist, and a red backpack worn behind. This time, I want to focus on the knee-high White long socks and the red-soled white Mary Jane shoes. The White long socks caught highlights wonderfully under the convention hall's overhead lights and reflectors; particularly when lifting the skirt hem from a side profile, it not only elongated leg lines but also naturally showcased leg contours. In an indoor convention venue where floor tiles produce strong reflections, lowering the camera angle was necessary to dodge cluttered passersby while preserving background depth of field, which placed high demands on the photographer's on-site coordination. The skirt fabric is quite structured, flaring into a natural parasol silhouette when lifted, which beautifully framed the hip line. Regarding props, the yellow circular badge on the red backpack echoed the necktie, popping vividly against the gray-toned convention backdrop.
For another side-profile shot, resting my chin lightly on my right hand with my left leg naturally bent looked relaxed and confident on camera. During shooting, keeping leg muscles relaxed rather than stiff was essential to complement the disgusted expression with a languid sense of pressure. The subtle sheen of the White long socks was preserved during post-processing, giving them rich tactile depth. Conventions are crowded, so to find a clean backdrop, we spent considerable time searching for optimal light-reflection angles in corners. We got lucky—the glass door across from us provided soft diffuse reflection that hit my face just right, making the red eye makeup stand out even more. I genuinely love how these final Convention photos turned out: not only was the yield high, but seeing that perfect disgusted face made it almost impossible not to burst out laughing in front of the lens while forcing myself to stay aloof and composed. Managing and storing this blue dress also took time, as walking around created creases around the collar. Additionally, intentionally placing my center of gravity on my back leg with straightened toes visually elongated leg lines on camera, adding a touch of playfulness alongside the skirt-lifting gesture. To complement the uniform aesthetic, tightening the red bow tie slightly elongated the neckline. Although indoor lighting was relatively harsh, the overall photo quality and convention atmosphere were completely spot-on. These are my insights on styling and expression control for this Shigure Ui cosplay Convention photos shoot.
