I have always felt the autumn maple ambiance resonates deeply with Xiangxiang—that dazzling, fiercely commanding beauty reaches its fullest expression within such a warm-toned environment.
In terms of wardrobe, this Sun Shangxiang outfit from From Madness to Courage is laden with rich nuances. The orange-red bodice trimmed with golden borders, combined with woven armor plates across the chest and waist, harmonizes classical Chinese softness with the resolute edge of martial arts wuxia. In particular, the black-and-gold arm bracers and the gold-trimmed blue sash create layered, dynamic color contrast. Because I also handled camera duties for this shoot, I had to balance emotional character expression while monitoring light, shadow, and frame composition. For instance, in the shots resting beside the hanging scroll, we repeatedly adjusted lantern positions and facial light exposure to catch the ideal angle, ensuring every ray fell exquisitely across the silk fabrics and hair strands. For makeup, eye contours were deliberately emphasized; paired with green contacts, they deepened her gaze, while a warm orange-tinted red lip resonated with the surrounding maple leaves.
While shooting seated poses and playing with the braid, I kept my body language as relaxed as possible. Often, interacting with props—such as twirling a hair braid—effectively eases stiffness before the lens while bringing the composition to life.
