Choosing to shoot Takanashi Hoshino's cat in pajamas look this time, the core idea was to create a very slice-of-life feel while retaining the character's unique traits. Compared to her combat form, this loungewear cosplay style is much softer, making it perfectly suited for studio shoots or specific room settings.
The white halo on top of my head is a highlight of the post-processing. It was essential to communicate with the editor in advance about the focusing and aperture choices during the shoot to ensure that the spatial position in the final composite is accurate, allowing the end result to look as natural and seamless as if it were drawn on. The pink tone of the wig was specifically styled, and the small red bead hair tie on the side along with the cat ears accessories added a touch of playfulness to the whole look. The eye makeup used a cool blue-purple tone paired with colored contacts, attempting to recreate that look in her eyes that is slightly lazy yet sharp and alert, staying close to the original character.
For the outfit, I chose a loose, off-the-shoulder white top. The best part of this cut is that it visually accentuates the shoulder and neck lines while preserving the comfort of loungewear. The white leather collar around my neck with a bright, large golden bell hanging from it serves as the visual focus of the entire outfit. Paired with long white over-the-knee socks, the look finds a beautiful balance between white and pink, keeping the colors from looking monotonous.
On the shooting set, to recreate that "leisurely afternoon" vibe, we specially chose a full set of pink gaming gear, including a pink-and-white gaming chair, a pink keyboard and mouse, and even a pink rabbit-ear headset on the desk. The rug featured a magic circle design on a pink background, which not only maintained the room's overall gentle color tone but also added a layer of detail and depth through its intricate patterns. In terms of poses, I tried several different approaches, such as gently interlocking my hands in front of my chest as shown in the photo, slightly raising my hand close to the bell, or turning around for a backward glance while sitting in the gaming chair, striving to capture relaxed, completely defenseless moments of daily life.
The overall lighting was kept quite soft without intentionally creating stark contrasts, which perfectly matched the soft and cozy texture of the outfit. The photographer, Ah Sen, captured these details beautifully, and when taking hall shots at the Chengdu Comic-Con (Shijiexian), the venue's setup was also amazing. Wearing this outfit outdoors or at a convention, with the bell jingling as I walked, was actually a highly immersive experience. Bringing a frame of this 2D "daily vibe" into 3D reality requires much more control over life's little details than shooting combat scenes. Let's treat this as a quick memo sharing the styling and my experience with this session of cosplay photography.
