An afternoon by the waterfront, the wind brushing against the skirt hem. When the final photos from today's set came out, I felt that the cool, slightly moist, and ethereal atmosphere truly captured exactly what I was aiming for.
Regarding the look. This "Return like water" Chinese style skin outfit actually has a lot of details. The long, straight silver-white hair paired with airy double hair buns really tested the hairstylist's skills, but fortunately, the final result presented that ethereal feel without looking heavy. The cyan branches on top of the head and the fin-like ear accessories on both sides, combined with this lightweight white tulle dress, make the sheer sleeves on the arms and the long streaming ribbons hanging from the waist flutter with every movement when walking along the shore as the breeze blows. Finding a balance between the look's three-dimensional structure and its flowing elegance took a lot of thought.
Regarding the shooting moments. For these few attempts on the pebble shore, I wanted to let go of the flamboyant, heavily posed feel as much as possible, making the movements look casual and natural. Whether it was the quietness of hugging my knees while looking at the camera, the laziness of propping my chin on one hand while waiting for the breeze on the water, or the brief moment of curling up with closed eyes to listen to the sound of the water. These emotions I wanted to express are much more interesting than simple, stiff standing poses, which is also why I wanted to capture the tranquil temperament that the character Xishi can convey in static frames.
Regarding styles and poses. For this shoot, we experimented with some different perspectives. For the sitting poses, I took off my high heels and stepped barefoot onto the pebbles. Although the stones were a bit sharp underfoot, that tactile sensation of close contact with natureāpaired with the light blue ribbons and gold buckles tied around my anklesāindeed fit better with the clear and moist qualities represented by the name "Return like water." Of course, the standing poses to showcase the full costume couldn't be missing. Changing into thick-soled white shoes with a high platform and standing straight, the visual tension of the blue and white tulle dress and the long streaming ribbons was completely unleashed.
Lastly, as my main hero, I have always wanted to perfectly recreate her charm. In the realm of roleplay, cosplay is not just a copy of the appearance, but more of an extensionāblending my own affinity for the character's "water" element and my understanding of her serenity into every single lens frame. Although the light changes a lot by the water during this shoot, I hope these final six photos allow everyone to feel that unique, mist-filled atmosphere, and read my sincerity as a performer toward the character. Looking back after the wrap-up, I still find this moment incredibly worth recording into my collection of cosplay photos.
