[Cissia Cosplay] Outdoor Light and Shadow Record of Zenless Zone Zero

After deciding to cosplay Cissia in this look, I began preparing for this outdoor photography session. The wig color is a striking bright golden yellow; to secure that tuft of hair on top and the twin tails with white fur balls on both sides, I used plenty of hairpins and setting spray. Red contact lenses, paired with matching eyeshadow and lipstick, created a prominent visual focus in the Cosplay makeup. To match the red contact lenses, I specifically adjusted the intensity of the eye makeup, ensuring the eyeliner trajectory naturally elongated my eye shape to give my gaze more spirit. Combined with a pink top, black collar, and a green plaid mini bow tie, the overall color combination is indeed vibrant, breaking away from conventional dullness. The white flexible tube prop around the neck is also an important element of this styling; I adjusted its curvature on site so it wouldn't look overly stiff. The matching white fur balls on the sleeves also added a sense of 3D dimension and cute charm to the overall look.

These two photos were taken in two different settings. One was inside a car, where strong light outside the car window created a semi-high-key backlit atmosphere. In the tight space of the car interior, as light hit the blonde hair, the texture of the hair strands was displayed wonderfully. We snapped a few shots during shooting breaks, and the effect turned out surprisingly natural. The other photo was taken near an outdoor pine forest. With dappled tree shadows at the time, having patches of natural light hit the face and clothing actually places high demands on the cleanliness of the base makeup. If the base makeup isn't smooth enough, or if the wig appears slightly messy, this lighting will magnify imperfections. Fortunately, we brought a reflector to fill in some light from the side, which preserved the unique dappled feel of the ambient light while maintaining the dimensional light and shadow across the face and body.

I believe cosplay is not simply copying a character's appearance; combining the actual physical environment and lighting to construct an atmosphere unique to the character is also a very intriguing process. For instance, in this styling, blonde hair and red eyes along with relatively vibrant clothing colors convey a sunny, energetic vibe under sunlight. Meanwhile, that high-contrast candid feel inside the car presents a vivid, relaxed state. Before the formal shoot, I spent some time trying on the costume at home. The proportion of the wig's bangs, the tightness of the sleeve covers, and the angle of the white tube hanging around the neck were all micro-adjusted. More often than not, minor details end up impacting the final outcome. For example, the small black animal-shaped hair clip on top of the head—though tiny, it is precisely these subtle accents that make the entire look appear more refined.

Through shooting this set of photos, I also gained more insights into combining outdoor natural light with artificial light sources. The more thoroughly prepared you are prior to shooting, the less time is needed in post-processing. This outdoor photography set didn't undergo overly complex editing, focusing mainly on basic adjustments to skin texture and color balance, restoring the authentic colors seen by the naked eye on site. Although spending an entire afternoon outdoors wearing a heavy wig and bright makeup—and constantly fixing bangs blown messy by the wind—was exhausting, seeing the final outcome present a look that faithfully aligns with the character made it all feel completely worth it.
