The Convention photos from the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo are finally sorted out. To faithfully recreate San from Hayao Miyazaki's animation Princess Mononoke, I put considerable effort into both the costume and makeup. The top is a white sleeveless tunic featuring distressed, frayed hem edges, joined at the shoulders with a dense white fur cape that flows naturally with every step. The headpiece features a red base with yellow circular motifs bordered by plush white fur, complemented by a red dot painted on the forehead. Around my neck hung a necklace strung with sharp white canine fangs, while my hand held a white dagger prop.

For makeup, to reflect her wild nature raised in the mountains, I stepped away from a clean, polished look—painting red warrior stripes across both cheeks and wearing blue contact lenses. The hair was styled with textured, wind-tossed tufts, deliberately left unkempt. Black arm wraps were tied around the arms, paired with oversized white circular earrings at the lobes. The lower half consisted of an apron-style dark blue skirt, worn barefoot with white mid-calf socks.

Although the expo was packed that day, we managed to find an open asphalt area. To capture the dynamic impact of leaping, I attempted mid-air jumps multiple times—spreading my arms wide or raising the dagger overhead to fully elongate the silhouette. The most rewarding aspect was using the Shengke CF5 smoke machine to generate mist; right as the shutter clicked, golden dust burst through, instantly dialing the frame's tension to the maximum. Despite adding realistic scrape makeup to my knees and enduring the physical toll of repeatedly jumping on hard pavement, seeing the final images made it completely worthwhile.

Set against the concrete buildings and crosswalks of the city, this set delivers a striking contrast: on one side stand modern office towers and onlookers, and on the other, a figure emerging from the mountain forest brimming with primal vitality. To keep the background crowd from overpowering the composition, we mostly used low-angle upward shots, which bypassed the clutter while making the leap appear taller and more imposing. This series wonderfully captures the spirit of the wilderness leaping into urban life, while the lighting contrast and balance of cool and warm tones preserved that raw, primal grace. I hope everyone can feel the energy and resilience conveyed in these photos.
