The retouching for this Yun Ying photoshoot is finally complete. For this Chinese style outdoor photography session, we planned two distinct scenic zones—a bamboo grove and classical architecture—aiming to showcase her fusion of light agility and martial strength. The first stop was the bamboo grove, where the ground was blanketed in dry leaves, demanding extreme care with every step. The garment's red, white, black, and gold palette is striking, and the gold-thread embroidery along the cuffs and hem exhibited phenomenal texture under ample sunlight. To recreate the character's elongated leg proportions, I wore black thigh-high Stockings accented with red detailing, styled with white tall boots. However, maneuvering through the bamboo grove was a true trial, as the footwear easily sank into the soft earth. Styling the wig also took considerable time; to preserve the curve of the side ponytail and the effortless drape of the fringe, I used copious hairspray and clips, yet the moisture in the grove still softened the fibers, requiring constant touch-ups with setting spray between takes.

The spear prop was the absolute heart of this shoot. Though constructed from lightweight materials, its sheer length meant that if the arms and waist failed to harmonize, the martial movements would appear rigid. In the bamboo grove, dense foliage fragmented the light, frequently requiring us to snap dynamic movements right as the dappled sunlight shifted across the frame. To capture thrusts and sweeping whirls, I repeatedly adjusted my grip and wrist pivot points, hoping to channel a sense of effortless mastery. Several crouching stances and low-center-of-gravity poses demanded solid core strength to support the posture while keeping my facial expression calm. In particular, for the shot where my body dropped close to the ground, my entire weight rested on the balls of my feet while balancing the visual lines of the skirt and weapon; my thigh muscles were shaking by the end of the take, yet seeing the visual tension in the final frame made it all worthwhile.

Transitioning to the ancient architecture opened up an expansive field of view. The grey tiles and white marble balustrades in the background provided fantastic color contrast, while hanging red prayer ribbons enriched the traditional atmosphere. The shots leaning against railings and sitting along the stone stairs focused on relaxing bodily lines, letting the heavy spear form geometric leading lines across the composition. Because of the pairing of the skirt and tall Stockings, seated and crouching poses required close attention to fabric tension, guarding against wardrobe malfunctions while preserving fluid silhouette contours. For the backlit frame against the blue sky, the sun contoured my facial profile; to prevent the red hue of the contacts from getting washed out by intense glare, the camera angle was lowered slightly and a reflector was deployed to brighten the eye catchlights. The crimson tassels and waist sash easily whipped around in the wind, so we used invisible fishing line to secure their placement and maintain a clean, orderly visual aesthetic.

For makeup, the red contacts paired with deepened eyeshadow granted piercing intensity to my gaze. Touching up makeup during outdoor location shoots is routine, and under such weather conditions, oil control and setting the base were paramount to prevent the face from looking flat under strong light. Executing this entire collection was genuinely exhausting physically, especially performing wide, dynamic martial arts maneuvers while wearing heeled tall boots. Huge gratitude goes to photographer Lemon for their masterful eye in composition and lighting, capturing so many brilliant moments. To me, cosplay is far more than simply putting on clothes—it is experiencing a character's state within a specific environment and dedicating every effort to manifesting her true aura through visual imagery.
