This shoot was undeniably the most immersive studio session I have ever experienced. To flawlessly present Momoka Hanyuu's styling, a great deal of thought was invested into the wig sculpting and makeup design from early pre-production. The wig utilized vibrant orange-gold fibers styled into symmetrical looped buns atop the head, complemented by a delicate golden filigree crown and dangling beaded tassels, alongside sculpted pointed-ear hair contours on both sides that granted the look an ethereal vitality. For makeup, extensive washes of pink and crimson were blended around the eyes, with eyeliner extended into an upward flick, which, paired with deep red lips, immediately brought forth that distinct 2D aesthetic under the camera. The garment craftsmanship was exceptionally intricate: an off-the-shoulder neckline accented with white trims and a red bow at the chest, expansive wide sleeves bordered in red piping, and a red waist corset patterned with golden diamond lattice netting finished with red central tassels. To highlight the character's traits, I paired pearl necklaces and cascading earrings, further enriching the ensemble.
Immense gratitude goes to Taotao Studio for the stage construction, which completely realized the fantasy scene I had envisioned. The entire studio featured wooden flooring and slatted lattice doors/windows, accented by traditional glowing lanterns that established a classical, mystical aura. Most striking was the colossal glowing yellow full moon in the background alongside several oversized, semi-sheer red goldfish motif art installations suspended mid-air. Their floating presence, layered with softly blurred pink cherry blossom branches in the foreground, endowed the composition with remarkable depth of field. Artificial haze drifting along the floor transformed the entire scene into an ethereal waterside wonderland. Lighting was pivotal: the backdrop moon and lanterns provided primary ambient glow, while soft frontal fill light ensured sculpted facial features and luminous skin translucency.
In terms of posing, I explored leaning against the wooden railing, sitting poised, wielding a round fan, and standing with arms gracefully outstretched. When holding the floral round fan, my gaze maintained a languid, subtly melancholic expression, matching the camera angle to capture the most organic demeanor. When standing, I spread the voluminous sleeves to their fullest, allowing the folds and garment layers to radiate texture under the key lights. The entire process required continuous framing adjustments with the photographer, as the red goldfish installations and cherry blossom foreground elements were critical to balance—highlighting the subject while preserving the grand scale of the environment.
The defining difference between studio and outdoor shooting lies in controlling the lighting and haze. Artificial smoke looks artificial if hit by harsh, uncalibrated beams, requiring constant recalibration of camera angles and smoke density to sculpt that dreamlike mist. From styling refinements to the final deliverable, every stage relied on high-efficiency teamwork. Seeing the finished visual synergy where light, shadow, and vivid wardrobe hues clash so harmoniously made every intricate preparation completely worth it.
