Just returned from Firefly ACG Expo, and I've finally sorted through a portion of the on-site photos for Fubuki Shirakami! Before taking on this character, I poured considerable thought and effort into prepping the wardrobe and wig styling. The long white wig required flat-ironing to establish clean, dimensional layers, while the two towering upright ears on top were internally structured with floral wire and hair netting to maintain their plush, erect volume without collapsing. A thin, delicate braid was intentionally styled along each side of the face—a subtle yet pivotal detail of the hairstyle that renders facial contours far more dynamic.

For the makeup, to match the character's signature blue gaze, I chose vivid bright-blue contact lenses with high color payoff. The eyeshadow and blush incorporated expansive sweeps of pink, deepened at the outer corners and beneath the lower lash line, accented by luminous highlighters on the aegyo sal (tear troughs) to produce a translucent, ethereal presence before the camera. Because convention hall lighting is notoriously erratic, makeup longevity faced a real test, prompting generous use of setting spray and loose powder. The Sailor suit collar features a black base bordered with baby-blue trim, while the matching light blue bow tie at the chest is centered with a small white animal silhouette emblem; the fabric carries a subtle sheen that reflects distinct visual luster under natural sunlight.

Upon arriving at the expo venue, we scouted a relatively quiet corner and utilized the organic folds of a white bedsheet as a clean background. For this shoot, we experimented with intense side-rim backlighting: sunlight striking the edges of the white hair illuminated individual strand textures, while the shadow contrast between the draped sheet and silhouette enriched the frame with dimensional depth. In the first two photos, I held an effortless, gentle smile, extending my hands toward the lens to create an interactive connection with the viewer. For the third shot, I adopted a slightly more composed expression paired with a delicate fingertip pose, aiming to convey an emotional contrast distinct from the previous shots. Throughout the shoot, I exchanged framing ideas with the photographer and even bumped into fellow attendees who recognized the outfit, sharing brief chats about VTuber performances and styling quirks. Although walking around the convention in full cosplay felt rather warm and the wig required occasional combing, the entire shooting and sharing process flowed smoothly. From fine makeup nuances to capturing light and shadow, every press of the shutter aimed to document this character's signature traits in full.

Friends on location also brought along small props to assist with the shoot, helping each other adjust garments and hair—a genuinely wonderful, supportive convention vibe. The truest joy of cosplay lies precisely in materializing these 2D character designs into tangible reality. From picking the wig, cutting bangs, and styling fibers, to selecting lens shades and testing makeup, each step feels like completing a handcrafted art piece. Convention halls are naturally bustling with clutter, fill lights, and backdrop boards; finding a clean corner amidst the noise is no easy feat. Using a white bedsheet as a base, combined with direct natural daylight, unexpectedly yielded a crisp, punchy aesthetic. When posing, keeping body language fluid rather than stiff was essential—since these are static images, one must rely on physical posture to convey the character's spirited energy. Post-processing afterwards was equally time-intensive, focusing primarily on tuning skin tones and balancing light and shadow to unify the palette. Cosplaying FBK, her persona feels brimming with bubbly energy yet utterly adorable, so I leaned into those nuances during expression management. From preliminary groundwork to final delivery, the journey took nearly half a month, but seeing the final selects makes every bit of the effort worthwhile. I am steadily retouching the remaining photos and hope the full set captures an even finer representation of the character.
