[Eleg cosplay] Faithful to Character Art: Goddess of Victory: NIKKE Ichiban Kuji Illustration Recreated

Focusing on remaining Faithful to character art for the key elements, I put extensive effort into the fine details of the costume, makeup, and styling. The accessories, wig, detached sleeves, and white-yellow-black cropped jacket were all crafted to match the original illustration as closely as possible. Choosing a pure white studio for this shoot was primarily aimed at showcasing the bright yellow and clean white tones with crisp, high-contrast clarity.

For the head styling, the white plush cat-ear hood has a slight drape, with the tiny yellow bows and hair clips arranged as symmetrically as possible. The wig is a brighter light-golden yellow, with bangs and side layers cut to flatter the face shape. Paired with soft Western-style eye makeup and light-toned lenses, it maxes out the character's carefree and easygoing presence.

The top features a unique zippered structure with a stand-up collar rather than a standard crewneck sweatshirt. Divided by the center zipper, the white and yellow fabrics form a diagonal color-block splice that creates a strong visual contrast against the black bandeau underneath. The detached sleeves are another highlight of this Eleg cosplay—crafted with widened cuffs and black straps to evoke a loose, relaxed, and languid vibe.

The pleated miniskirt below features matching black-and-yellow edge piping that echoes the top. The most eye-catching part of the entire ensemble is the pair of Yellow and white striped long socks. Because character art often depicts striped socks with specific draping and fit, I carefully adjusted the height and fold at the sock opening during the shoot; the height and slouch in Photo 2 come very close to the original art.

For the poses, I kept checking the reference art to recreate that casual, relaxed seated posture on the floor. Arms spread naturally outward, palms lightly opened, combined with focused eye contact—these were crucial for capturing her authentic demeanor. Placing the acrylic standee of the original art on the left in Photo 1 shows my effort in matching the exact expression and body language.

There were quite a few minor challenges during the shoot. For instance, the detached sleeves slipped easily with larger movements, requiring constant readjustments between takes. Maintaining balance while seated on the floor also meant carefully controlling foot angles and weight distribution; projecting an unguarded, relaxed look actually demands steady, subtle core effort throughout.

Even though the studio was brightly lit, framing full-body shots required coordination between upper and lower body while keeping the gaze engaging yet ethereal—a real test of stamina and expression control. To harmonize the refreshing white-and-yellow palette with the character's youthful aura, I avoided exaggerated smiles, aiming instead for that nuanced expression between earnestness and effortless calm. The pure white background rigorously tests color purity; the vibrant yellow blocks flatter the skin tone against the white backdrop, and the Yellow and white striped long socks provide the perfect finishing touch. With the help of the photographer and assistant, this set staying Faithful to character art was successfully realized. Rather than an elaborate background, this clean and bright canvas lets the tailoring and color coordination shine. Even for an Ichiban Kuji cosplay theme, the goal was to deliver an authentic, true-to-source portrayal for Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.
