The convention photos from this Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo are finally edited and posted! A big thank you to the photographer, Nanguazi (@VirtualFrogGuardian). It was actually exhausting on the day of the shoot, but seeing the final photos made it all worth it. I chose a cyan-blue cosplayer look this time, paired with a classic school-style cardigan and pleated skirt. With the iconic pointed ears and the black eye markings, the overall look presents a contrast between daily life and cool style.
Regarding the giant ink brush prop I held, quite a lot of thought went into its production. To restore its texture, the prop team used metallic silver and cyan-blue paint, paired with transparent grip rings—it's packed with details. During the shoot, this big brush was both the visual center and a display of power, especially when combined with the cyan-green ink splash special effects on the ground and floating in the air, instantly bringing the static photos to life.
As for the shooting techniques, Nanguazi used a wide-angle lens, even with a bit of a fisheye effect, stretching the space to look incredibly vast. This perspective turned the somewhat ordinary indoor corridor into a tension-filled battlefield. The post-production was handled very quickly; the three-dimensional processing of the ink splash special effects was spot on—it kept the liquid texture on the ground while giving the ink blobs floating in the air a sense of light, airy breathability. I couldn't help but exclaim on site that the photographer's shutter release was both accurate and fast.
At a bustling venue like the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo, it's really not easy to get clean and atmospheric photos. Crowds were surging all around, yet this set managed to convey a unique sense of cool detachment and rebelliousness. The large floor-to-ceiling windows and urban high-rises in the background brought out that cross-dimensional feeling perfectly. I met many friends who play Splatoon at the expo; the first thing we'd say to each other was \"Stay fresh!\"—that mutual understanding among fans is really fun.
Regarding the styling details, this wig actually took a whole day to set; the hair streaks and straight bangs required very complex trimming. For makeup, the black eye-mask-style markings were relatively bold, but when combined with the cyan-blue hair and pointed ears, a certain visual balance was achieved. While the outfit looks like a simple academic style, the choice of texture is crucial; the texture of the gray knit sweater and the drape of the skirt were carefully selected so that they presented the necessary quality without appearing monotonous.
Overall, this shoot was not just a completed Cosplay, but a concrete interpretation of this gaming world. Rather than just pursuing restoration, I also hoped to show the character's free, confident, and slightly cunning personality traits in front of the lens. Throughout the shooting and editing process, whether it was the efficiency of the photographer or the coordination of the props and costume, I enjoyed the fun of creation. I hope this set of photos, full of movement and color tension, lets everyone feel the vitality of the Splatoon world, and it also serves as a memorable moment for myself at the Firefly ACG Expo.
