Spring is bright and beautiful, and this set of red and white Sakura outdoor photos is finally here. The sunshine on the day of the shoot was exceptionally beautiful, perfectly matching the bright and cheerful feeling of this magical girl costume.
Regarding the costume, I chose the most classic red and white color scheme this time. The white laced flutter sleeves on the upper body pair with a red ribbon bow, looking incredibly energetic. The lower body features a dusty pink pleated skirt, and the white lace petticoat inside is very fluffy, propping up a beautiful arc that looks exceptionally agile when walking or spinning. Although the white wings on the back are lightweight, they still required angle adjustments to capture the weightless feel of flying. The pink and white magic wand held in my hand is also reproduced perfectly into place; holding it instantly brought the soul of the entire look together.
For makeup and hair, to stay close to the character's youthful and energetic vibe, I specially styled that fluffy reddish-brown wig with her iconic ahoge. The eye makeup followed a clean, translucent clear-toned style, and wearing green-gray contact lenses made the gaze look bright and pure. The lip color selected was a natural and complexion-boosting peach pink, which under the sun not only avoided looking heavy but instead carried a natural glowing sensation.
The location choice on the day of the shoot also took a lot of thought. We specially found an outdoor woodland trail and steps in full bloom with pink flowers. The photographer was excellent at utilizing natural light, capturing several low-angle close-ups through the flower branches and leaves, with the pink-purple blossoms serving as a blurred foreground to create a dreamy and romantic atmosphere. The close-ups of holding petals with a lowered head and smiling, or closing eyes to feel the wind, turned out exceptionally gentle in the final images.
Personally, I favor the dynamic snapshots in the second and fourth photos the most. The second photo's high-angle shot looking down through the flower clusters adds a touch of playfulness and storytelling to the frame; the fourth photo capturing the moment of jumping on the steps showcases a weightless feel paired with the flying skirt hem, which is completely a natural performance of a magical girl casting her spells.
What touches people the most about this costume and the character's feeling is probably that carefree, brave, and pure atmosphere. During the shoot, I also deliberately reminded myself not to adopt overly mature poses or expressions, showing more of an open, innocent, and energetic state instead. Replicating every detail to my best ability—not just in terms of styling, but in the gaze and demeanor—I hope that when everyone sees this cosplay photoshoot, you can also feel this refreshing and healing experience unique to spring. Actually, before the shoot, I spent a lot of effort organizing the wig. Although this kind of long, straight silver-white hair looks beautiful, it tangles very easily. So when bringing it on set, I used several different combs to maintain its smooth and glossy condition, alongside the layered curls of the bangs and sideburns. This set also experimented with emotional expressions from different camera angles—the focal-less feel during close-ups and the relaxed state during full-body shots gave me a deeper understanding of the character Kasugano Sora, making it a highly exhilarating cosplay photoshoot experience.
