This Mudrock cosplay shoot was conceptualized around the theme of 'Flowers Bloom in Wasteland'. To fit the character's temperament, the location was chosen on moss-covered ground, scattered with tiny white flowers. This strong contrast—hard rock and soil intertwined with soft petals—excellently highlights Mudrock's trait of having a soft inner core despite a tough exterior.
In terms of clothing, the material of this outfit is quite meticulous. The dark gray-black parts use a matte fabric, while the white shawl part has a silk-like glossy feel with red characters printed on it. During the shoot, I paid special attention to the lighting angle to give the reflection of the white parts a sense of layering. The long black leather gloves on the arms are a highlight; they not only conform to the arm lines but also enhance the combat feel, and when striking poses, the leather folds naturally create shadows, making them very photogenic. The wig was a major challenge; long silver-white hair easily looks messy on the grass, requiring constant maintenance with smoothing spray to ensure the hair strands' flow, paired with black hair accessories featuring geometric structures to increase the character's recognition.
In terms of makeup, besides emphasizing the depth of the eyeshadow, the core element was the pair of red contact lenses. Mudrock's gaze often gives a sense of indifference tinged with a hint of fatigue, so when shooting lying poses, I tried lifting my chin slightly, capturing that aloofness from an overhead or sideways glance.
That huge geometric hammer can be said to be the focus of the whole set. To present the perfect geometric facets and metallic texture in front of the lens, a lot of effort went into making the prop. Shooting while lying on the grass is actually much more tiring than standing; you have to adjust your body curves while holding such a heavy prop and keeping your facial expression relaxed. Especially when shooting close-ups, with the lens close to the face, precise control of the gaze is required. The white flowers in the background are actually very fragile, and every time I changed a pose, I had to carefully avoid them for fear of crushing them.
Besides static displays, I also tried using the hammer as an interactive element, such as holding the long handle to let the prop's extension guide the visual flow. Although the whole process was a bit exhausting, seeing the light and shadow flowing across the black-and-white clothes and the silver wig in the final photos made all the hard work feel worth it. In the future, I will try shooting from more different angles to better present Mudrock's unique texture combining heaviness and lightness.
