This outdoor cosplay location was chosen at a mountain stream; I was already deeply moved by the vegetation and the sound of flowing water when scouting the location in advance. On the day of the shoot, the sunlight filtered through the canopy, casting dappled light and shadow, and the reflection from the water surface happened to provide perfect fill light for my face, saving the trouble of bringing an extra reflector. For the hair and makeup, Suwako's iconic twin braids used a light gold hair color, which, combined with the hanging cords of the straw hat, appeared softer under natural light. The costume is a modified white and purple patchwork, and the wide tailoring of the sleeves easily creates a flowing feel in front of the lens. Especially when there is wind or waving movements, the draping texture of the fabric photographs beautifully.

As for props, the lotus leaf was found on-site temporarily. This random element actually turned out more vivid than meticulously prepared ones. For example, in the photo where I stand on one leg holding the lotus leaf, my core had to be tightened to stay stable on the rock, which tested my balance many times. The golden rings were props made in advance with a lightweight design, so they weren't too tiring to hold. Moreover, the color contrast of gold with the straw hat and purple skirt stood out brilliantly against the green background.

However, we also encountered minor challenges during the shooting process. The surface of the stream rocks was slippery, and the moss was very thick in some places, requiring very careful positioning. I went barefoot or wore white socks basically the entire time, which both fit the character setting and allowed me to feel the friction. The photographer used a large aperture prime lens this time, beautifully blurring the foliage light spots in the background while preserving some environmental information, letting the audience feel the summer stream heat and a sense of immersion with the croaking frogs. The photo of crouching on a rock with hands clasped in prayer was actually taken while waiting for the sunlight to break through the clouds. The moment of light change was very brief, and it took several snapshots to achieve the ideal brightness.

In post-processing, we only fine-tuned the color temperature and brightened the shadows without excessive skin smoothing, as we felt the natural skin texture and halos in the stream environment offered a stronger sense of reality. Overall, two sets of actions were shot: one was the dynamic lotus leaf lifting and balancing, and the other was the static composition with the golden rings. The combination of motion and stillness showcases the character's different temperaments. The preparation of this outfit, makeup, and props actually took a lot of time, especially the length and color matching of the tie cords on the straw hat, which were finalized after repeated comparisons. Every time I do an outdoor photoshoot and adapt to different scenes, I gain a new understanding of the character. This shoot by the stream made me feel even more the compatibility between this character from Touhou Project and natural elements. I hope this photoset allows everyone to see a different mountain forest vibe.
