The overall makeup, styling, and photographic direction for this Gardener cosplay at the convention were exceptionally clear. The wig was light blue, meticulously styled with delicate braids and an updo, crowned with a blue-and-white rose circlet adorned with numerous teardrop-shaped transparent decorations. A teardrop makeup look was specially crafted on my face, covering the right eye with a white rose while 3D rhinestones were affixed around the eyes and cheeks. Paired with light blue contact lenses, the overall look presented a fragile yet exquisitely refined aesthetic.
For this Identity V Gardener cosplay, the core element I prepared was the Blue and white Lolita style. The dress consists of three full layers, with dense ruffles and hand-sewn white roses stacked across the shoulders and chest. Putting it on required two people to help tie the satin ribbons at the back, otherwise it would be nearly impossible to adjust into the ideal silhouette. The headpiece was remarkably heavy; beyond artificial blooms, the circlet was draped with numerous teardrop crystal pendants, requiring the makeup artist to use countless bobby pins to keep everything firmly secured. The wig's bangs were trimmed and the sides were gathered into an updo, perfectly framing the facial makeup. The facial embellishments were the absolute highlight of the makeup—especially the layering of the teardrop makeup and rhinestones, which produced pronounced, shimmering reflections under intense lighting.
I really want to give special praise to the photographer's lighting setup and post-processing. The environment at the convention was quite chaotic, but the photographer draped black velvet as a backdrop to suppress stray ambient light to the minimum. The light source was a cool white beam cast from an upper angle, falling precisely onto the hair strands, facial rhinestones, and satin ribbons on the dress. This lighting technique pushed the cool-toned blue-and-white atmosphere to its absolute peak. The post-grading also embraced my favorite Cool-toned photography style; rather than artificially cranking up saturation, the brightness of the overall color was pulled down, treating the light blue and white with a very sophisticated, high-end touch. I kept telling the photographer how much I adored this color grading—it preserved the natural skin texture while imbuing the scene with a shadowy, dreamy gothic fairytale aesthetic.
Shooting this set at Mengka Comic Con was honestly quite exhausting because the skirt hem was voluminous, making movement very unwieldy. To capture that effect in Photo 2 where the skirt hem spread across the entire frame, I sat directly upon a white plush mat, repeatedly adjusting my posture and the folds of the skirt. Since the photographer aimed for a quiet, downcast fragility, I held a posture with my head slightly lowered and eyes cast downward for most of the shoot. This outfit and makeup attracted many photographers at the convention; everyone was wonderfully cooperative during shooting, actively helping with reflectors and reminding me if the skirt hem got tangled.
The character of the Gardener in Identity V inherently embodies striking contrast, so when portraying her, I deliberately infused melancholic sentiment into both the makeup and demeanor. The Blue and white Lolita style aligns with her love for flowers and longing for beauty, while visually forging a chilly, desolate contrast. It was a thoroughly enjoyable convention shoot: from makeup, styling, and attire to the final photos, every single step achieved our envisioned results. Though walking around the convention all day left me exhausted, the moment I saw these Convention photos, every ounce of hard work felt completely worthwhile. The skirt of this Lolita dress was exceptionally puffy, requiring constant vigilance against tripping while walking, but the visual volume it delivered in front of the lens was truly satisfying.
